Three terrorists have been killed in a gunfight with security forces in the upper reaches of the Dachigam forest near Srinagar. The encounter unfolded as part of a large-scale joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police, launched after gunshots were heard in the area earlier in the day.
Top intelligence sources have confirmed that all three slain militants were foreign nationals affiliated with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. They added that the encounter was the result of a month-long intelligence-based operation and clarified that it bears no connection to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Search and combing operations are underway in the forested zone to recover weapons and confirm identities.
The process of identifying the bodies is currently underway, with drone photography being used to capture images from the encounter site. The photographs will be immediately shown to the two harbourers recently arrested by the NIA for reconfirmation of identities.

Sources said it was around 11 am when an area domination patrol of the Indian Army spotted suspicious movement in the forest, prompting the launch of the operation.
According to top intel sources, the operation is considered significant as, even if the slain terrorists were not involved in previous attacks, they were part of the group of nearly 150 infiltrated militants currently present in the region.
