This summer, ESPN’s flagship program “SportsCenter” embarks on a nationwide tour to bring popular events closer to fans across America. The slate includes a mix of live on-site shows and storytelling segments from a different state each day for 50 consecutive days. Running June 27 through Aug. 16, the 2025 event is inspired by the 2005 SportsCenter Across America program.

The seven-week initiative will feature a variety of fun segments, including:

North American mainstream culture prevails in South Dakota, yet traditional customs are preserved in many religious enclaves and Native American reservations. Augustana College hosts Nordland Fest, a three-day celebration of Norwegian culture, Czech Days in Tabor honours that heritage, and numerous Indian powwows are held throughout the year.

The arts The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra is based at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls; local orchestras perform throughout the state. South Dakota’s literary tradition includes local colourist Hamlin Garland, whose family moved west from Wisconsin; Norwegian-born O.E. Rölvaag, who spent his early life near Sioux Falls, which was the setting for his Giants in the Earth (1927); and Charles Eastman (1858–1939) and Elaine Goodale Eastman (1863–1953), who published several works on the 19th-century Sioux. Laura Ingalls Wilder set five of her Little House novels in and around the town of De Smet, and she drew on her own childhood experiences there to present a vivid picture of pioneer life. Tom Brokaw, longtime journalist and former host of the NBC Nightly News, reflected on his childhood in South Dakota in his autobiography, A Long Way from Home: Growing Up in the American Heartland, and in The Greatest Generation. South Dakota has also produced a number of renowned visual artists, most notably Harvey Dunn (1884–1952), remembered for his paintings of pioneer life and his book and magazine illustrations, and Oscar Howe (1915–83), a Yanktonai Sioux who incorporated tribal motifs and symbolism in his paintings. A collection of Howe’s works is housed at the University of South Dakota. Traditional Native American crafts, many of which include intricate beadwork, are displayed and sold throughout the state.

(more) See all videos for this article Among the numerous museums in South Dakota, several stand out for their extraordinary collections and exhibits: the South Dakota State Historical Society in Pierre, the W.H. Over Museum of Natural and Cultural History in Vermillion, the Agricultural Heritage Museum in Brookings, and the Smith Zimmerman State Historical Museum in Madison. The Ingalls Homestead is a “living history” museum in De Smet that offers a window onto the pioneer life depicted in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House novels. The National Music Museum at the University of South Dakota displays thousands of instruments from around the world. The Archaeological Research Center, part of the South Dakota State Historical Society in Rapid City, preserves the state’s major archaeology sites. The Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell includes a teaching and research facility as well as the Boehnen Museum, which contains a reconstructed earth lodge, pottery, tools, and other artifacts. The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs provides visitors with a look at an active archaeological dig where the remains of scores of mammoths and other Ice Age creatures are studied on-site. The library at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion has a significant collection focusing on regional and Native American history and culture. The Center for Western Studies at Augustana College contains an art museum with substantial collections of regional literature, documents, and photographs.

High school football in Texas has long been a focal point of pop culture, with books, movies and TV shows profiling the state’s obsession.

Now, ESPN’s signature program has taken notice.

This summer, the network’s “SportsCenter” will visit sporting events in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, which will be the location for the opening segment in the series on June 27, according to a press release announcement on Monday.

For the show’s visit to Texas, it will take place on Thursday, August 14 at 1 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast from a football scrimmage between Euless Trinity and North Crowley. Hannah Storm is slated to host the on-location “SportsCenter” segment.

It is the only high school football game listed as part of the “SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days” series, which will have the show be broadcast from events like Major League Baseball games and the WNBA’s All-Star Weekend from Indianapolis, to the BMX Mount Rushmore Nationals in South Dakota and whitewater rafting from Arizona’s Grand Canyon.

North Crowley turned in one of the more memorable seasons in the history of Texas high school football last season, going undefeated and beating two defending state champions along the way in DeSoto and Duncanville. The Panthers won the UIL 6A Division I championship game against Austin Westlake, 50-21.

The 2025 season for the Panthers starts on Aug. 28 with a home game against Lancaster, and North Crowley is at home again the following week, Sept. 5, against DeSoto.

Euless Trinity, meanwhile, went 10-3 last season and reached the third round of the 6A DI playoffs before falling, 22-21, to Allen, which then lost 30-8 to North Crowley the following week. The Trojans will kick off their 2025 season on Aug. 29 at Strake Jesuit.

Technically speaking, ESPN’s SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days tour will encompass 51 places in 51 days, but we understand that doesn’t quite roll off the tongue as easily.

Back in May, the Worldwide Leader announced that beginning June 27, it will hit the road with SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days, “a nationwide tour designed to bring SportsCenter and its anchors directly to fans across the country.”

On Monday, they released the full schedule, which includes stops in all 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C. The seven-week initiative consists of a mix of live on-site shows and storytelling segments from a different state for 50 consecutive days.

Some of the notable highlights include:

A Scott Van Pelt-hosted SportsCenter in Washington, D.C., to kick off the tour.

A live show from UFC 317 in Las Vegas with Nicole Briscoe and Michael Eaves.

July 4th in NYC for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest & Subway Series with Treavor Scales at Nathan’s and Kevin Connors at the Yankees-Mets game.

An appearance at the MLB Home Run Derby in Atlanta with Elle Duncan and Kevin Negandhi.

The flagship show will also make stops at unique spots and hidden gem locations, such as the BMX Mount Rushmore Nationals in South Dakota, the Rubik’s WCA World Championship in Seattle, the Cornhusker State Games in Nebraska, and the Maine Lobster Festival.

This is the second time ESPN has conducted such an enterprise. In 2005, they embarked on a 50-state “SportsCenter Across America” tour.

Awful Announcing’s Michael Grant wrote that, as the child of immigrants, he thinks this cross-country tour is precisely the kind of thing America needs right now.
