There was chatter that Samsung would significantly hike the prices of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, partly because of increasing material costs and other overheads. However, rather than focusing on maximizing profit, the company decided to absorb the extra costs as much as it could. This allowed it to keep the prices almost flat compared to last year.

Samsung prioritizes foldable growth over profit in 2025 lineup

In recent years, competition in the foldable market has heated up as several OEMs race to launch their foldable devices with standout features and competitive pricing structures. Apple is also reportedly preparing to debut its first foldable iPhone next year. While Samsung is leading this space, it aims to strengthen its position first rather than focus on making a lot of money from a niche market.

The Korean firm recently unveiled its next-generation foldable devices. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 come with significant improvements over their previous generations. Despite that, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 hits the market at just $1,999 — a $100 increase from last year’s Z Fold 6. As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it retains the same starting price of $1,099.

The goal is to expand the foldable market

Of course, these are still steep price tags. However, had Samsung maintained the same profit margin from last year, the prices could have been much higher. The company’s president, TM Roh, recently confirmed that it absorbed increased manufacturing costs to maintain the prices. The Korean firm wants to expand the foldable market first. It even introduced a Fan Edition clamshell model called the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE at just $899.

“Pricing is always a key consideration with new product launches”, said Samsung Electronics President Roh Tae-moon at a press conference. “There were significant innovations in this year’s models, which increased production costs. To expand foldable phones and democratize AI experiences, we decided to absorb those costs internally.”

US tariffs on Samsung’s smartphones could cause prices to go up in the future — the company is unlikely to absorb the increased tax amount itself. But until then, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are available at solid prices for what they offer. Pre-orders for all the latest foldable devices are currently underway. If you are interested, now’s the perfect time, as you can score some extra perks.
