Rejoice, football fans- we are just weeks away from most teams starting training camp and under two months away from the start of the regular season.

One team that has undergone some major changes this offseason is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team made the playoffs last year with Russell Wilson at quarterback, but decided to revamp this offense this offseason anyway.

Aaron Rodgers was brought in to play quarterback, while star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was brought in to be his top target. The team also recently pulled off a major trade that brought in tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

With some notable new names, expectations are higher in Pittsburgh for the 2025 season. Today, let’s take a look at where some analysts have the Steelers in their power rankings.

Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report: 13th

Knox has the Steelers in the top half of the league. but he isn’t entirely sold on the team. Regarding this ranking, Knox offered the following analysis:

I’ve said before that I don’t like a Pittsburgh quarterback plan that is centered around 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. At least, Rodgers is finally signed and officially with Pittsburgh for the 2025 season. I’m only a tad higher on Pittsburgh than I was after the draft, however. If Cincinnati’s defense is even respectable, I’ll view the Steelers as the third-best team in the AFC North, and I’m not certain that Rodgers can deliver the Steelers’ first playoff win since the 2016 season. I also don’t think the recent Minkah Fitzpatrick-Jalen Ramsey swap was an overwhelming win for Pittsburgh, though I do like what Jonnu Smith can bring as a second tight end.

Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk: 16th

Florio is slightly lower on the Steelers than Knox is, having the team dead center at 16. Regarding this ranking, Florio simply said of the Steelers “They’re going to skew one way, or the other.”

ESPN’s Football Power Index: 18th

Next, we have ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI). This isn’t a typical power ranking, but is instead a projection that represents how many points above or below average a team is, taking into account various factors like talent, schedule, and previous season performance.

This formula has the Steelers even lower than Florio, at 18th. FPI gives the Steelers a projected record of 8-9 in 2025 with a 39.5% chance of making the playoffs and a 15.8% chance to win the AFC North.

Of course, much could still change between now and Week 1. If Rodgers comes out to begin the season and looks like his old self, expect the Steelers to rapidly climb up the rankings.
