“BULLSH*T!” Murphy shouted after the replay call came down.
In a game packed with playoff implications, the Brewers entered Thursday night at 48-38, chasing the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central. They faced a Mets team also in the middle of a skid, adding pressure to every late-game moment.
Yelich’s stolen base attempt was initially ruled safe but was overturned on review in the ninth inning, evaporating a critical scoring opportunity with Milwaukee trailing by just one run.
The overturned call in the Mets vs. Brewers series finale was pivotal. Yelich, who represented the tying run, appeared to beat the tag at second base. The replay review, however, ruled him out—killing Milwaukee’s momentum. The MLB replay review system once again took center stage in a key spot, fueling debates among fans and analysts alike.
The Brewers had already split a doubleheader on Wednesday, winning Game 1, 7-2, before dropping Game 2, 7-3. Thursday’s rubber match came down to the wire, and this call may have cost the Brewers a potential comeback or even the series win.
It’s not uncommon for Murphy’s reactions to be animated, but this outburst hit a new level of raw emotion. With playoff races tightening, a single blown call or overturned play can swing a series. And while the NSFW outburst may lead to a fine, it captured the emotion of a manager watching his team lose on a controversial review.
Public sentiment remains divided. Some fans argue Yelich’s hand clearly beat the tag, while others believe the replay angles supported the overturn. Regardless of opinion, one thing was certain—Milwaukee was left stunned by the moment.

In five starts, Misiorowski has posted a 2.81 ERA and a 4–1 record, totaling 33 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.
On Saturday, MLB announced Misiorowski’s selection to the All-Star Game, replacing Chicago Cubs starter Matthew Boyd, who became ineligible after starting Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Early on Sunday, players around the league voiced frustration at MLB’s decision to include Misiorowski with such a small sample size, arguing that more proven veterans had been passed over.

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner said, “What a joke. That’s [expletive] terrible. I mean, that’s terrible, dude.”

Catcher J.T. Realmuto also said: “Nothing against the Misiorowski kid. But those two (teammates Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez) are deserving.”
Outfielder Nick Castellanos added: “It’s turning into the Savannah Bananas.”
Brewers star Christian Yelich responded before a game against the Washington Nationals: “I understand why some people feel the way they feel, just because it’s a small sample. But at the end of the day … people want to be entertained. It’s a showcase of some of the best and most exciting players in the game. Miz is definitely that, right?”
The 2025 All-Star Game is set for Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Pat Murphy Has 5-Word Message After Controversial Brewers All-Star Nod
Pat Murphy Has 5-Word Message After Controversial Brewers All-Star Nod. Brewers rookie phenom, Jacob Misiorowski, was named to the NL All Star team last night. Philadelphia Phillies players were upset that their starting pitcher, Cristopher Sanchez, was not selected as an All Star replacement instead. The All Star Game will have a huge amount of eyeballs on baseball, especially since there are no other major sports going on at the time. The demand is there for Miz, and MLB is trying to meet it, says manager Pat Murphy. “People want to see Miz pitch” says Murphy. ‘It’s an honor. He should enjoy it. And if people don’t like it, f*** ’em”.
There’s a lot of attention around the league focused on the Milwaukee Brewers. Because of their five game winning streak? Nope. Because of their push to the top of the division? Also no. Rather, it’s because the Brewers rookie phenom, Jacob Misiorowski, was named to the NL All Star team last night.

Misiorowski has started just five games for the Brewers since making his MLB debut one month ago. It’s by far the fewest amount of games played for an All Star in MLB history, but every start has been appointment viewing.
Naturally, some around the league were not happy with the decision, most notably the Philadelphia Phillies.

Several Phillies players were upset that their starting pitcher, Cristopher Sanchez, was not selected as an All Star replacement instead. Sanchez this season has a 2.59 ERA in 18 starts over 107.2 IP. He was not asked and they felt he should’ve been.
Sanchez is also the Phillies’ scheduled starter on Sunday, making him ineligible to pitch in the All Star Game to begin with.

Manager Pat Murphy was not surprised by the backlash to his young starter’s selection to the Midsummer Classic. But he also shared a message that is incredibly true.
“This is the entertainment business” Murphy said. “People want to see Miz pitch”
Every single one of Misiorowski’s five starts have been must-see TV, even his one rough outing in New York. MLB has on their hands a marketable young star that people want to see. The All Star Game will have a huge amount of eyeballs on baseball, especially since there are no other major sports going on at the time. The demand is there for Miz, and MLB is trying to meet it.
“He’s the new shiny toy in the league. And it’s not, deserving has nothing to do with it. It’s like any of us that have great fortune come our way. Are we deserving?” Murphy added.

The Phillies players were not necessarily trying to hate on or throw shade at Misiorowski personally, they know he didn’t ask for this, but their frustration is likely more with the league.
“You can criticize a lot of what MLB does, but bottom line is that they’re pretty thoughtful… I feel like, from my level, from my little, small view, they do a great job of getting it right, and this wasn’t a fly by night decision, this is something they thought through” Murphy added.
As Christian Yelich told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Curt Hogg, “It’s an honor. He should enjoy it. And if people don’t like it, f*** ’em”.
