Okada bests Omega to become AEW’s first Unified champion
Kazuchika Okada defeats Kenny Omega at All In Texas. Okada is now the International, Continental, and the first AEW Unified champion. Omega nearly won it with a series of V Triggers, but Callis pulled referee Bryce Remsburg out of the ring to save his man, then stomped on the official’s neck for good measure. The match was probably the fourth or fifth best of the Omega/Okada singles.
After grand entrances at Arlington’s Globe Life Field — Okada with his new ally and Omega’s estranged uncle Don Callis, Kenny with best friend and Golden Lovers partner Kota Ibushi — it was all Rainmaker in the early going. Okada took control by targeting Kenny’s midsection, looking to take advantage of damage done to his guts by the diverticulitis that almost ended Omega’s career & life last year.
Callis’ involvement didn’t help either…
For a time, every Omega comeback attempt was shut down pretty quickly…
But Omega came all the way back, and nearly won it with a series of V Triggers. He would eventually hit the One-Winged Angel… but Callis pulled referee Bryce Remsburg out of the ring to save his man, then stomped on the official’s neck for good measure.
Having been saved from the move he’s never kicked out of gave Okada the opening he needed. He survived another V Trigger, then after having a Rainmaker attempt reversed, he hit another after a spinning slam.
That kept Kenny down for three, and makes Okada the International, Continental, and the first AEW Unified champion.
Business picked up after a slow start, but a knee jerk reaction is that this was still probably the fourth or fifth best of the Omega/Okada singles. It will be interesting to see how they each move on from here.
