Celebrities React to Stephen Colbert’s ‘The Late Show’ Getting Canceled. Colbert announced that the long-running late night show will end in May 2026 after the 2025-26 TV season. Hollywood isn’t happy about The Late Show with Stephen Colbert getting canceled.
During the show’s taping on Thursday, July 17, Colbert announced that the long-running late night show will end in May 2026 after the 2025-26 TV season. He also posted the announcement to Instagram, and many of his A-list friends taking to the comment section to express their disappointment.

“I am so upset about this. I need more information. We love you @stephenathome ” commented Katie Couric.

“Love you Stephen. This is absolute bulls–t, and I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows” added Adam Scott.
Ben Stiller also took to X to share his thoughts on the shocking cancellation of the top-rated late night show.
“Sorry to hear @CBS is canceling one of the best shows they have,” he wrote. “Wishing all the people who work so hard on that show all the best.”

Fellow late-night hosts broke their silence via Instagram.
In an Instagram story, Jimmy Kimmel posted a clip from The Late Show with the caption, “Love you Stephen. F–k you and all your Sheldons CBS,” seemingly referencing the CBS scripted series Young Sheldon and its spin-offs.
“For as great a comedian and host he is, @stephenathome is an even better person,” Seth Myers wrote. “I’m going to miss having him on TV every night but I’m excited he can no longer use the excuse that he’s ‘too busy to hang out’ with me.”
Jimmy Fallon also chimed in, saying, “I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he’s really been a gentleman and true friend over the years – going back to The Colbert Report, and I’m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.”
