The “Wanna Be A VJ” contest, where Dave Holmes LOST to Jesse Camp? (but ended up getting a gig anyway).. “I got officially banned. from Disneyland, which is illegal at Disneyland,’’ Rebel Wilson said on the Daily Show. ‘I did not break any rules. I did not do anything wrong.’ “Don’t worry – this was quite a secret,” she said.

Disney specializes in creating manufactured magic at its theme parks, but everyone knows that the real magic comes from the cast members.

Ever since Disneyland Park opened in 1955, its employees and their proclivity for creating magical moments have set Disney parks apart from their competitors. That’s what makes it even more offensive when guests – especially celebrity guests – take advantage of their kindness and go out of their way to be rude or openly break the rules during a Disney day.

Over the years, Inside the Magic has reported on several not-so-magical celebrity encounters at Disney’s theme parks. Here are seven of the most shocking tales we’ve heard.

JoJo Siwa

One of the most infamous “celebrities behaving badly” stories at Disney World in recent memory comes courtesy of Dance Moms alum JoJo Siwa. The dancer, singer, and actress, who previously compared herself to incoming Disney Legend Miley Cyrus as she attempts to shake off her child star image, was pictured and filmed acting extremely drunk in EPCOT on her 21st birthday.

The footage shows Siwa – who’s a Disney World regular – trying (and failing) to get nearby guests to sing her track, “Karma.” Clearly intoxicated, Siwa then stumbles alongside her Disney VIP Tour Guide with the rest of her party. “Who is that?” one onlooker is heard saying in the video before another responds, “It’s JoJo Siwa, and she’s drunk off her ass.”

We’ll give her credit; Siwa wasn’t exactly being rude in the footage (and some have questioned whether she was, in fact, pretending to be drunk for some reason). However, there’s no question that this kind of behavior definitely makes life more difficult for the Disney cast members who are just trying to get celebrities from place to place.

Leonardo DiCaprio

This story is pretty dated, so take it with a grain of salt.

Back in 2016, an alleged former Disney cast member shared a story on Reddit about an incident that supposedly took place at Walt Disney World Resort in the late 1990s.

Related: Shocking New Numbers Seemingly Confirm Future of ‘Star Wars’

The cast member – who claimed to have worked as a lifeguard at Disney’s Beach Club Resort – recalled a time when actor Leonardo DiCaprio apparently “pissed down the waterslide.”

This requires a little backstory. I’m dating myself here, but does anyone remember the “Wanna Be A VJ” MTV contest from back in the day? The first one, where Dave Holmes LOST to Jesse Camp? (but ended up getting a gig anyway).Well, don’t ask me how, but Leo and Jesse became buds, and they ended up coming to the pool on a bender. Reeked of alcohol, huge entourage, jumped in with their clothes on, went down the slide with their spiked belts (scratching it up) and then Leo whipped it out and pissed into the top of the slide, then went down the slide. They refused to listen to anyone and Security finally came and escorted them off, cursing.

Fresh off stints in Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Titanic (1997), DiCaprio was part of a relatively rowdy friendship group in the 1990s known in the press as “the Pu**y Posse,” so this story wouldn’t be the most shocking thing in the world. However, considering the source of this one is akin to a “trust me, bro,” we’d call this one an urban legend to be safe.

Rebel Wilson

As far as a celebrity breaking Disney protocol goes, Rebel Wilson’s “crime” is extremely minor. At the same time, it’s a violation so obvious to major Disney fans (a moniker Wilson has given herself many times) that it’s surprising Wilson fell foul of it at all.

In 2023, the actress appeared on The Daily Show with Hasan Minhaj, where she revealed that she was banned from Disneyland Resort for a month after committing a major faux pas.

“I did get banned from Disneyland for 30 days because I took a photo inside a secret bathroom, which is illegal, at Disneyland,” Wilson explained. “I got officially banned.”

Before you start panicking about your stockpile of bathroom selfies from your most recent Disney park trip, don’t worry – this was, quite literally, a secret bathroom.

Wilson was in Club 33 at the time, Disneyland’s private dining club. Located above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, next to Walt Disney’s former apartment, this is only accessible to those who’ve been invited and paid around $35,000 for their initiation, plus $15,000 in annual fees. Pictures are strictly prohibited in Club 33 – hence Wilson’s punishment for taking a sneaky selfie.

Luckily for Wilson, The Walt Disney Company was pretty light-hearted about said punishment. “They called me up, and they said: ‘Rebel, what 30 days do you not want to come to Disneyland because you’re away filming a movie or something?’” she said. “And I was like: ‘Oh, June is fine.’”

Tori Kelly

In 2021, ex-cast member Sarah Alrifai went viral on TikTok for rating her experiences with different celebrities while working at Walt Disney World Resort. At the very bottom of her list was former American Idol contestant and singer-songwriter Tori Kelly.

“Now she was the definition of a diva,” Alrifai explained. Kelly, who was slated to perform during a holiday special filmed at Disney World, allegedly wanted to wear her sunglasses during the performance. Despite being told they didn’t fit the theme, she “threw a tantrum” and “insisted” on wearing them (which, as per YouTube videos of her 2015 performance, she was successful in doing).

According to Alrifai, Kelly also couldn’t decide whether or not she wanted a stool on stage. “She was driving everybody nuts trying to keep up with her,” Alrifai said. “And she was ignoring everybody who was trying to talk to her. Like fans saying ‘I love you’ or ‘hi,’ she just wasn’t saying anything back to them.” Now, that’s not the Disney spirit.

Christina Aguilera

The “Voice of a Generation” got her start on the Disney Channel alongside Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, courtesy of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean she’s necessarily in top form at Disney all the time.

In 2014, the former Mouseketeer was at Disney California Adventure, celebrating her 34th birthday, when she met (or tried to meet) Mickey Mouse. As the character was off duty, he apparently declined, causing Aguilera to lash out.

“Aguilera lost it and called Mickey an ‘a**hole,’” claimed TMZ. “We’re told she even dropped the dreaded, ‘Do you know who I am?’”

It went on to claim that “Xtina’s crew started hurling threats” and “Mickey had to be ushered to a safe zone — out of public view.” While security was called, Aguilera had apparently already left the Disney park by the time they arrived.

Mariah Carey

Tori Kelly isn’t the only celeb to receive the TikTok treatment from a former Disney cast member. Nicole Smith, who worked at Disneyland Resort, shared her own experiences with everyone from Will Ferrell (who was apparently “very nice”) to Mark Wahlberg (who was both “handsome” and “a very nice man”).

One celebrity who didn’t impress Smith was the Christmas queen herself, Mariah Carey. The singer is a regular parkgoer and has been spotted at Disney theme parks multiple times over the years. However, she and her former partner Nick Cannon, whom Smith met separately, were reportedly both difficult guests.

“These people are awful,” she said. “I had to deal with both of them separately. She is an absolute diva, and he is an absolute diva. I hope that no cast member has to deal with these monsters ever again.”

Carey has long held a “diva” reputation. While she declined to divulge any specific details about her encounter with Carey, Smith did add: “She’s a diva, we all know it… I heard it from many cast members. It’s not just me. She’s just rude. She’s not very friendly. And I love her, and I was really sad about that.”

Ariana Grande

Another singer with a diva-ish reputation. Multiple Disney cast members have accused Ariana Grande of being a difficult theme park guest. According to @teresa_jack on TikTok, VIP Tour Guides hate actress and singer Ariana Grande “more than anyone.”

While Grande was being attacked for dating her Wicked (2024) co-star Ethan Slater before their respective divorces were finalized, the TikToker claimed that “you and I, or anyone else, will never dislike her as much as the Disney Guest Relations cast members.”

She went on to explain that while most celebrities cut lines at Disney parks with their VIP Tour Guides (who will also do the same for VIP non-celebrity guests), the majority don’t expect rides to be closed for their benefit – or to be seated separately from other guests.

Grande, however, allegedly forced Disney’s cast members to close rides for hours so she could ride it alone. “Oh, no, no, no. Ariana Grande doesn’t just cut lines, okay? She shuts them down,” the TikToker said. “Ariana Grande comes out here and says, ‘No, the whole Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster? Shut the whole thing down, okay?’”

She added, “It’ll be shut down for hours because you have to shut down the line. If people are in the line, kick them out. That’s a three-hour process… That is not normal celebrity behavior.”

Other cast members chimed in with similar experiences, with one claiming that Grande would not acknowledge the audience while filming the 2015 Christmas special at Magic Kingdom Park and another that she was rude to Expedition Everest cast members.

In his latest jaw-dropping video, YouTube mega-creator MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) takes viewers on a whirlwind ride through seven wildly different date nights — each one escalating in both extravagance and price tag. What starts as a sweet $1 Ferris wheel ride ends with an absolutely unreal $500,000 private evening inside the Disneyland Resort.

A Romantic Experiment With a Wild Budget Curve

Joined by his fiancée, Thea Booysen, MrBeast kicks off the experience at a tiny carnival for a nostalgic Ferris wheel spin. It’s modest and charming — but just the beginning.

Things escalate quickly. For the $10,000 tier, the couple dines on a multi-course gourmet meal personally prepared by none other than Chef Gordon Ramsay. After that? A full-blown $50,000 island date — think jet skis, couples massages, and luxury amenities — shared with a few members of the MrBeast crew.

Theme Park Luxury Hits New Heights

The stakes are raised again at the $250,000 level with a date hosted inside the American Dream Mall in New Jersey. The sprawling complex features an indoor ski slope, water park, and Nickelodeon-themed amusement area. The date — arranged for friend and fellow creator Nolan — includes an MLB game, a luxurious car service, and a surprise appearance by pop singer Madison Beer.

But nothing prepared fans for what came next.

The $500,000 Date: Disneyland All to Themselves

For the grand finale, MrBeast delivers what might be one of the most expensive romantic gestures ever captured on camera — a private Disneyland date night that cost half a million dollars.

With the park completely emptied for the evening, the small group begins in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for a no-wait ride on Rise of the Resistance. From there, they design custom lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop (a guest-favorite $219.99 experience) before hopping over to Pixar Pal-A-Round for a nighttime ride.

The group then heads to Disney California Adventure for a private viewing of the spectacular “World of Color – One” with its 70th anniversary Muppets pre-show. But the magic doesn’t stop there.

They return to Disneyland Park to enjoy a candlelit dinner in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, followed by a personal presentation of the “Paint the Night” parade — a fan-favorite that returned for the anniversary celebration.

While many fans were stunned by the sheer price tag of the Disney experience, others praised the creativity and detail MrBeast brought to each level of the date experiment. From the humble $1 ride to the most exclusive Disney evening imaginable, the video explores the idea that romance can be found in any budget — but with $500,000, you can also have the entire Happiest Place on Earth to yourself.

The full video is live now on the MrBeast channel and already racking up millions of views.

Other Celebrities Keep Disneyland Open

While MrBeast’s recent $500,000 private Disneyland date has garnered significant attention, he’s not the first celebrity to secure exclusive access to the iconic theme park. Over the years, numerous stars have rented out Disneyland for private events, showcasing their affinity for the magic of Disney and their desire for privacy.

Mariah Carey made headlines in 2013 when she rented out Disneyland to renew her vows to then-husband Nick Cannon. The lavish ceremony was a testament to her love for both her family and the Disney brand.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West followed suit in 2015, reportedly spending around $2.8 million to rent out the park for their daughter North’s second birthday. The event was a grand affair, complete with a Minnie Mouse-themed celebration.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively also chose Disneyland as the venue for their wedding reception, with an estimated cost of $2 million. Their choice highlighted the park’s appeal as a romantic setting for significant life events.

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker hosted their son Rocky’s first birthday at Disneyland’s exclusive Club 33, a venue known for its opulence and privacy. The event was met with mixed reactions from the public.

Christina Aguilera rented out Disneyland for her son Max’s first birthday, spending an estimated $1 million. The event was a private affair, emphasizing the lengths to which celebrities go to create memorable experiences for their families.

These instances underscore the lengths to which celebrities will go to create unforgettable experiences, blending their personal milestones with the enchantment of Disneyland.

Would you drop half a million dollars on a single night in Disneyland? Let us know how far you’d go for the ultimate date night.

Epic Universe Opening Live Blog: I’m Reacting To Universal Orlando Resort’s New Theme Park, The Blue Carpet And More

Celebrities were on hand over the last couple of days to “open” the portals to different lands. Beyond that, how the new park will be shown off is unclear. The goal is to make Universal Orlando Resort a “full week experience” With three full theme parks, plus a water park and several resorts, they’re awfully close to that now. The best thing about theme parks is understanding the creativity and artistry that goes into them, and understanding it was all done by amazing people. It’s now 6:00 ET, which is the official start time for the live stream. We are getting a taste of some of the park’s excellent music, which isn’t a bad way to wait. We’re now moving “inside the park” according to the live video package. We briefly see Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto, who waves…and walks away. To be fair, The Ministry of Magic is a incredible land, and don’t sleep on the Fantastic Beasts of Magic attraction. It is unclear if the Blue Carpet is officially done or not.

We’re just a few minutes away from the beginning of the official Epic Universe Grand Opening Celebration live stream. Several celebrities were on hand over the last couple of days to “open” the portals to different lands, so we can guess we’ll see them on the Blue Carpet. Beyond that, how the new park will be shown off is unclear, but it should be fun.

I got to experience all of Epic Universe’s attractions when I was there, but the thing that I need to go back and experience more of is the general vibe of the park. Sometimes the best part of a theme park is the feeling you get from it when you’re not doing anything. We probably won’t get much impression of that tonight, considering just how fully packed tonight’s event probably is.

It’s now 6:00 ET, which is the official start time for the live stream. Things haven’t quite gotten rolling yet, not surprising for a live event. We are getting a taste of some of the park’s excellent music, which isn’t a bad way to wait.

What’re the odds we get an announcement of an Epic Universe expansion or whatever the next big project for Universal Orlando is, tonight? I wouldn’t put it past them to confirm a land dedicated to Wicked, or possibly a confirmation of what’s replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, before the end of the night.

I didn’t exactly expect this thing to get started on time but 10 minutes late is getting silly. C’mon guys, let’s get this thing going.

I assume this livestream will have a host and that host could be on screen saying literally anything to keep things going if the “show” isn’t ready yet. That would be preferable to nothing.

Hey, we’re getting a commercial for Xfinity! That wouldn’t usually be worth celebrating but as Xfinity is sponsoring the show (Comcast owns Universal) I’m guessing the show is now starting!

(Image credit: Universal Orlando Resort) Following an Epic Universe commercial, we get a title card, and the show is officially underway. Mark Woodbury, the CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, is being interviewed as people are filtering in.

Interestingly, Woodbury says the goal is to make Universal Orlando Resort a “full week experience.” With three full theme parks, plus a water park and several resorts, they’re awfully close to that now.

The next interview is Karen Irwin, the President of Universal Orlando Resort. I have to say the production on this is a little rough. To be fair Universal Orlando hasn’t done a live event like this often, so this is all a little new for them.

Everybody is referring to the park as Universal Epic Universe, and can I just say I hate it? The fact that they put Universe in the name of the park has always been a weird choice, there’s no way to refer to the park and the resort without tripping over your tongue.

Ok, the Chief Creative Officer of Universal Creative just thanked everybody who helped make Epic Universe happen, and that was lovely. For me, the best thing about theme parks is understanding the creativity and artistry that goes into them, and understanding it was all done by amazing people.

It’s weird that we’re just getting wall to wall Universal executive in a live stream that is ostensibly designed for the general public. As a theme park nerd, I love to hear what these people have to say, but I’m not sure a lot of the public is going to care as much. Breaking up the C-suite with some celebrities would go a long way to smoothing this out.

(Image credit: Universal Orlando resort) Our hosting trio is now selling how exciting these interviews are. They break away back to the Blue Carpet because somebody exciting is there, the camera switches over, and we briefly see Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto, who waves…and walks away.

In the next interview, the great-great-grandniece of the founder of Universal Pictures was just asked what a relative she never could have met would think of Universal theme parks today. I don’t know what to do with that.

Our interviewer is now mugging for the camera like he’s waiting for somebody to walk into camera, but now it looks like it’s not happening.

And now we have two executive from Warner Bros. who are on hand because of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Land. To be fair, Ministry of Magic is a pretty incredible land. The Ministry of magic attraction is the best in the park, and don’t sleep on the Fantastic Beasts stage show.

We’re now moving “inside the park” according to the live stream. It’s unclear if the Blue Carpet is officially done or not. To be fair, if we’re only going to get more executives, it’s fine to move on.

Now we’re getting a video package showing off various parts of the park, one land at a time. This is going to get more people to want to visit Epic Universe than anything else we’ve seen so far.

We have John Marks, an executive producer on the upcoming documentary series about the creation of Epic Universe. It will be available with a Peacock subscription next month. We shift to a clip, after another production slip from the hosts. The series looks to be the Universal version of The Imagineering Story. It’s great to see Universal doing something like this.

It looks like we’ll be showing off each land in detail. We’re getting a prerecorded video of a look at the entrance area, Celestial Park. This includes both of the attractions inside the land, Stardust Racers and Constellation Carousel.

(Image credit: Dirk Libbey) We’re moving on How To Train Your Dragon: isle of Berk. Honestly, as a land, this is the best part of the park, and I say that as somebody who isn’t a particular fan of the franchise. It has a great family roller coast, an incredible stage show, and between live and animated characters, the land is just alive.

If people don’t want to know basically everything about Epic Universe before they get to the park, they probably shouldn’t be watching this. They’re not leaving a lot of secrets here.

The production problems continue. One person asks a question, leading to a long delay before the answer, and the answer is clearly pre-written and given by a person who can’t hear, the question

The Grand Finale: A $500,000 Private Disneyland Experience

Culminating the series was the $500,000 date at an empty Disneyland Resort. The evening began with a private ride on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy’s Edge, followed by customizing lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop, an experience typically priced at $219.99 per person. The night concluded with a private viewing of “World of Color – One,” a nighttime spectacular at Disney California Adventure, and a special dinner in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park. The evening was capped off with a private presentation of the “Paint the Night” parade, which had returned for Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration.

ABU DHABI: This week, history was made in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as Yas Island hosted a dazzling celebration to announce the launch of the Middle East and Africa’s first-ever Disney theme park resort.

Marking this monumental partnership between Miral and The Walt Disney Company, more than 9,000 drones lit up the Abu Dhabi sky in a record-breaking light show, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display. The event captivated guests with a live performance from global artists and drew international attention as global celebrities graced the celebration.

The vibrant ceremony took place at Yas Links, showcasing an orchestration of visuals and music to announce the seventh Disney theme park resort in the world – and its first venture in the Middle East. It promises to connect Abu Dhabi with global tourism circuits spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, and India, further solidifying Yas Island’s reputation as a premier international entertainment hub.

Global guest list

The occasion attracted a star-studded guest list, including Hollywood actor Tyrese Gibson, supermodel Naomi Campbell, Lebanese icon Nancy Ajram, Italian fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni, and Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick. Industry leaders, entertainment figures, government dignitaries, and prominent media professionals also gathered to witness the landmark moment for the region’s tourism and leisure landscape.

Among the evening’s artistic highlights was a mesmerising collaboration between world-renowned pianist Lang Lang and beloved Emirati singer Rashed Alnuaimi. They were joined by West End sensation Kerry Ellis and classical vocalist Sonya Balsara, delivering a powerful musical performance that echoed across Yas Island’s waterfront.

The 9,000-strong drone display – the largest of its kind in the region – transformed the sky into a living canvas, with imagery inspired by Disney’s iconic characters and storytelling legacy. The synchronised drones, accompanied by vibrant music and fireworks, painted an imaginative narrative that celebrated the fusion of Disney magic with Abu Dhabi’s cultural vibrance.

UAE illuminated

As part of the festivities, iconic landmarks across the UAE lit up in Disney-inspired visuals. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, along with Aldar HQ and other prominent structures in Abu Dhabi, featured themed projections and blue lighting to commemorate the announcement. These symbolic illuminations extended the celebration far beyond Yas Island, marking a nationwide embrace of this milestone project.

The upcoming Disney resort will be masterfully developed by Miral, the driving force behind Yas Island’s transformation into a global leisure destination. Disney’s renowned Imagineers will spearhead the creative direction, ensuring that the new destination seamlessly integrates world-class attractions with the cultural essence of Abu Dhabi.

This announcement is not only a major achievement for Disney and Miral but also an economic signal of confidence in the UAE’s tourism sector. As the destination continues to evolve, Yas Island cements its standing as a global beacon for entertainment and immersive travel experiences.

Visionary development

Miral is widely recognised for developing immersive, multi-attraction environments and managing Abu Dhabi’s premier tourism assets. Its portfolio includes renowned attractions such as Ferrari World Yas Island, Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Yas Island, Yas Waterworld, and the record-breaking CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi. The company also oversees the Yas Bay Waterfront and Etihad Arena – the region’s largest indoor entertainment venue.

In addition to managing Yas Island, Miral is spearheading development strategies on Saadiyat Island and introducing visionary projects like teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. The Harry Potter-themed land under construction at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi further reflects Miral’s commitment to delivering globally recognised experiences in the UAE capital.

The new Disney resort will add to this impressive portfolio, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience for visitors and further diversifying Abu Dhabi’s tourism economy. While full details of the resort’s layout, features, and launch date are yet to be revealed, expectations are high for attractions that blend Disney’s legendary storytelling with the heritage and modernity of the Emirates.

Strategic location

Yas Island is strategically located just 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi and 50 minutes from Dubai, making it highly accessible to regional and international travellers. Spanning 25 square kilometres, the island offers a diverse mix of leisure and entertainment – from award-winning theme parks and luxurious hotels to record-setting adventure attractions and vibrant nightlife.

Attractions like the Yas Marina Circuit – home to the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX™ – alongside Yas Mall, Yas Links Golf Course, and over 165 dining experiences contribute to the island’s year-round appeal. Venues like WHITE Abu Dhabi and the Etihad Arena offer world-class music, sports, and entertainment events that draw crowds from across the globe.

The opening of SeaWorld® Yas Island in 2023 added another dimension to the island’s offerings, positioning Yas Island as a complete leisure ecosystem. With the Disney resort now in development, the island’s portfolio enters a new era of growth and international visibility.
