Flash floods leave people stuck in cars in Montgomery County
A flash flood warning was issued Saturday evening in many parts of Montgomery County, including Silver Spring. The heavy rainfall caused roads to flood and turned walkways into small ponds. A man named John Angel said he was out running an errand when his wife and daughter called and told him they got stuck in the water. The fire department responded to multiple calls of people being surrounded by floodwater as slow-moving storms brought torrential downpours through parts of the D.C. area.

Cars caught up in the storm got stuck in fast-moving water on Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring.
A man named John Angel said he was out running an errand when his wife and daughter called and told him they got stuck in the water. They were able to make it out of the water thanks to other drivers on the road, Angel said.

In the 20 years he’s lived in the D.C. area, he said he has “never seen it this bad.” Video shows him wading in the water beside a car.
“It was seconds,” Angel said. “And then there’s a bunch of it — was just a little water and then just the water just rushed so quick because she didn’t have a chance to react and then she tried to then her car just stopped.”
The Montgomery County fire department responded to multiple water incidents in Potomac, Maryland, including one along River Road. Video shows crews helping a woman out of her car. Crews rescued a driver after being trapped in their car.
“As I got closer over there, the water just suddenly it just hits my car and I really can’t do anything about it once it reaches my car,” the driver said. “I tried to get out, to rev the engine. The car wasn’t moving.”
The fire department said they responded to multiple calls of people being surrounded by floodwater as slow-moving storms brought torrential downpours through parts of the D.C. area, with many hoping for a break from the rain. Video sent to WTOP shows multiple people attempting to help a woman out of a car submerged in floodwaters with a fire truck driving up to help her.
