The 11-inch and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro are exceptional and downright powerful slates that can pretty much tackle anything thrown in their path, but Apple wants to take it up a notch by introducing the M5 iPad Pro series later this year. It is expected that the company will not make any changes to the display sizes, hinting that a chipset upgrade is the only notable change about these tablets. Fortunately, the latest report mentions that the Cupertino firm is also bringing in a second camera to the front side, which will address a problem that users have had with the current models.

The biggest redesign was introduced when Apple announced the 11-inch and 13-inch M4 iPad Pro models, as these featured the slimmest chassis, along with tandem OLED technology, making them the first products in this class to feature such panels. Of course, with all the impressive hardware that Apple has crammed into these devices, it took one step backward, and that was in the camera department. Instead of a portrait camera, they got the unit positioned on the landscape side, making it difficult to capture selfies and FaceTime their loved ones.

Fortunately, that problem will no longer exist because Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has mentioned in his latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, with the details spotted by 9to5Mac, that a second camera will be present on the portrait side of the 11-inch and 13-inch M5 iPad Pro models, addressing a major complaint. Additionally, users will get to experience the capabilities of the M5, which is said to be mass produced on TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, also known as ‘N3P.’

“Apple is apparently adding a second, portrait-side front-facing camera to the upcoming M5 iPad Pro, presumably so FaceTimers and selfie fans can use the device equally well in either orientation. This isn’t particularly revolutionary, but it’s a nice enhancement.”

With the launch of the M5 iPad Pro around the corner, you still have a choice of picking up the current-generation M4 model from $899 for the 11-inch version, giving you savings of $100, going all the way up to a whopping $300 discount for the top-end version that ships with 2TB of storage. Given that Apple will likely stick with the same design as the current lineup, you can grab one if you are a solid bargain hunter, or wait for later in the year for the newer models.
