A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Brunswick County business owner.
Brian Reed Grant, 40, has been arrested and charged with murder, according to a news release from the Oak Island Police Department. The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 61-year-old Southport resident Randy Stewart.
Stewart was found dead in an Oak Island home on Wednesday, July 23. The shooting appears to have occurred during a service call to the home by Stewart’s locksmith business. Officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:18 p.m., pronouncing Stewart deceased at the scene.
Grant was identified as the homeowner and was arrested shortly after, according to the release. He is being held in the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond.
The incident was isolated and there is no present danger to the public, according to the release. The police department also decried false reports of “multiple gunshot victims” at the scene. The misinformation had been shared on various social media outlets, but was never published by the department.
The Oak Island Police Department will not be making further updates on the case, according to the release. Grant is expected to appear in Brunswick County court on Thursday, July 24 at 2 p.m.
