The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday informed of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra on Saturday, including coastal and hilly regions. A red alert has been issued for Palghar district and for the ghat (hilly) areas of Pune district. The weather department said the deep depression is likely to move towards north Odisha and Jharkhand, bringing continued rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday informed of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra on Saturday, including coastal and hilly regions.

In its latest weather forecast for the region, the weather department has predicted very heavy showers in parts of Pune, Satara and Nashik on July 26.

A red alert has been issued for Palghar district and for the ghat (hilly) areas of Pune district.

Meanwhile, Palghar District Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres on July 26 in view of the weather warning. The district is likely to receive very heavy showers in the next 24 hours, according to the forecast.

An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan region, as well as for the ghat areas of Nashik and Satara districts.

According to the meteorological agency, areas under the red alert may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places, and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Regions under the orange alert may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

As per the latest post by Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai on X, isolated places in Marathwada may experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall.

Furthermore, the weather department said the deep depression is likely to move towards north Odisha and Jharkhand, bringing continued rainfall, as per PTI report.

Widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy to very heavy showers is forecast for several districts, including Bankura, Paschim Medinipur, and Purulia, until Saturday morning. Heavy rain is also likely in Kolkata and surrounding areas over the next six days.
