‘Jai Hind’ echoes as India pays tribute to Kargil heroes on 26th Vijay Diwas
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in paying tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War. President Murmu called the day a symbol of “extraordinary valour, courage and steadfast determination” of the nation’s soldiers. Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta laid a wreath to honour those who died in the 1999 conflict in Dras, Ladakh. The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff extended greetings to all ranks of the Armed Forces, veterans, Veer Naris, and their families.
“Heartfelt greetings to the countrymen on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This occasion reminds us of the unparalleled courage and valor of those brave sons of Mother India who dedicated their lives to protect the nation’s pride. Their passion to sacrifice everything for the motherland will continue to inspire every generation. Jai Hind!” Prime Minister Modi said in a message.

President Murmu echoed similar sentiments, calling the day a symbol of “extraordinary valour, courage and steadfast determination” of the nation’s soldiers. “Their dedication and supreme sacrifice for the nation will forever inspire citizens,” she said.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute, saying, “Kargil Vijay Diwas is an unforgettable day of pride and the saga of victory for our nation’s brave soldiers. In the year 1999, our soldiers, through ‘Operation Vijay,’ brought the enemy to their knees, setting an indelible example of indomitable courage and valor. The nation will forever remain indebted to your sacrifice and dedication.”
Earlier in the day, Singh arrived at the National War Memorial in Delhi to offer tributes. Videos surfaced showing him joined by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi in paying homage to the fallen soldiers.
At the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta laid a wreath to honour those who died in the 1999 conflict.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also marked the occasion, saying, “We bow in reverence and salute the supreme sacrifice of our martyrs who valiantly defended our motherland in the Kargil War. Their unflinching courage and valour will forever inspire generations. Jai Hind.”
The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff posted a message from General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, extending greetings to all ranks of the Armed Forces, veterans, Veer Naris, and their families.
“Saluting our bravehearts on Kargil Vijay Diwas! Their indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice will forever inspire us. Let’s honour their legacy by serving our nation with dedication and national pride,” it read.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in 1999.
