El Paso County man arrested for fraudulent business practices in home renovation scam
Hugo Vasquez, 51, is charged with Theft of Property (under $2,500) and Deceptive Business Practice with a prior conviction. He is accused of failing to pay for work on a home he was supposed to complete. He was arrested on July 25, and his bond was set at $14,000.
The investigation began when a victim reported hiring H&V Remodeling for a home renovation project. According to the victim, several of her family members had also contracted the same company for remodeling work. Despite receiving multiple payments, the company failed to complete the jobs and ultimately ceased communication.
Detectives identified Hugo Vasquez as the individual behind the business. Vasquez made repeated false promises to begin the work but never followed through. After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators obtained two arrest warrants.
On July 25, 2025, Vasquez was taken into custody by members of the Criminal Investigation Division and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. He is charged with Theft of Property (under $2,500) and Deceptive Business Practice with a prior conviction. His total bond was set at $14,000.
