Dak Prescott Shares Recovery Progress After Hamstring Surgery Update

Dak Prescott Recovery Update: Navigating the Path Back to the Field

A Month Post-Injury: Prescott Makes Strides

Exactly one month since tearing his hamstring, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is hitting significant recovery milestones.

“This is actually my first day driving, so I’m living it up in the truck right now,” Prescott told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday. “Wearing a brace but being able to drive again after a few weeks is a huge win. Even though I still have my crutches, being able to have a normal walking gait now with my crutches and put more weight on my leg is a big win.”

The Incident: How It All Started

Prescott’s injury occurred during the Cowboys’ Nov. 3 clash with the Atlanta Falcons, where his hamstring tendon partially tore off the bone. Following his exit from the game, Prescott underwent surgery on Nov. 13 to repair the damage.

The Recovery Journey: Slow and Steady Progress

Prescott has initially focused on letting the hamstring and bone attachment heal. As part of his rehabilitation, he has incorporated core exercises and weight transfers, anticipating the day he can ditch his crutches entirely.

“I’ve started some weight transfers and different core exercises,” Prescott shared in collaboration with DICK’S Sporting Goods. “When I get to put down my crutches to do a workout is something I’m looking forward to next.”

No Rushed Timelines: Prescott Takes It Day by Day

The offseason months allow Prescott the luxury to recover without the pressure of rapid timelines, as he stated, “Not necessarily rushing back. However, I do see myself entering this offseason with no restrictions. Not even it being discussed. Planning on by the time that comes, I’m full go, not even in the rehab mode and working to make myself a better quarterback for this team.”

Staying Engaged: Mentoring and Mental Preparation

Prescott remains involved with the team, offering support and insights to backup quarterbacks Cooper Rush and others. He continues to mentally prepare by reviewing gameplay footage and strategizing for future plays, even though he’s not physically able to contribute on the field right now.

“Taking a lot of notes,” Prescott explained. “Missing the hell out of the game right now. But the rehab has started. Already starting to get those small goals and victories, from one day to another. So looking exciting.”

Observing and Avoiding Risks: Prescott Cautiously Engages

Prescott is carefully avoiding injury risks by watching games from safer positions, such as the coaches’ booth during the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving showdown. This cautious approach is largely due to an earlier near-collision on the sideline during Dallas’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Prescott’s Future: Preparing for a New Season

With the Cowboys holding just a 4 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to NFL Next Gen Stats, Prescott has set his sights on returning better and unrestricted by the time offseason training commences for the 2025 season.

Prescott commented on his future, saying, “Planning on by the time [offseason activities] come, I’m full go, not even in the rehab mode and working to make myself a better quarterback for this team.”

Concluding Thoughts: The Road Ahead

The journey of recovery for an athlete is as much a mental challenge as it is physical. By sharing his progress and fostering a positive attitude, Dak Prescott not only inspires his team but also fans watching his path back to peak performance.

With careful attention to his health and readiness, Prescott is geared up for a comeback, eager to make every move a calculated step towards victory both on and off the field.
