Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball/WY AA State Tournament: The team blanked Laramie 6-nothing. The Troopers are 0-4 against the Roughriders so far this season, losing 3 of those 4 by 1 run. Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies won the first game of a 3-game series yesterday at Cleveland 8-6, thanks to the team scoring 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning. University of Wyoming Football: Practice started yesterday for the team, but it’s a bit early to tell what the team is going to look like, but that will change soon. The team has one month to prepare for their season opening game on Thursday, August 28th at Akron.
Avon Barney pitched 6 innings of 1-hit ball and struck out 8, while Garrett Lamb finished the job, as the team blanked Laramie 6-nothing.
In the 2nd round today, Sheridan will play Gillette for the 5th time this season, starting at 3:30pm.
The Troopers are 0-4 against the Roughriders so far this season, losing 3 of those 4 by 1 run.
As for the rest of Day 1 at the AA State Tournament, Gillette blanked Rock Springs 10-zip, Casper defeated the Cheyenne Hawks 9-2, and Cheyenne Post 6 took care of Jackson 11-1.
The schedule of games for today…at 9:30am it’s Laramie vs. Rock Springs, and then the Cheyenne Hawks play Jackson at 12:30pm.
Both of those are elimination games.
As mentioned, the Troopers play Gillette at 3:30pm and then at 6:30pm, it’s Casper vs. Cheyenne Post 6.
Sheridan Troopers All-State Selections: The All-State awards have been announced for the 2025 season.
Seven Sheridan Troopers have received the honor from coaches.
On the first team, Avon Barney is now a 3-time selection.
Joining him are Tanner Hamrick, Will Greer and Blaine Phillips.
On the second team, it’s Dominic Destafano, Gunnar Lamb, and Griffen Switzenberg.
WY Legion Baseball ‘A’ State Tournament: There were 3 teams when yesterday started, but only one took home the trophy.
In the first game, Cody eliminated Wheatland 9-2, but Lovell would get the better of the Cubs 5-1 to win the state championship.
The Mustangs have qualified for the A-League Northwest Regional Tournament which starts one week from this coming Thursday in Burley, Idaho.
Also at the A-League State Tournament, the Sheridan Jets, who were the host team, won the sportsmanship award.
University of Wyoming Football: Practice started yesterday for the University of Wyoming.
The team has one month to prepare for their season opening game on Thursday, August 28th at Akron.
Head Coach Jay Sawvel says there’s only been one practice, thus it’s a bit early to tell what the team is going to look like, but that will change soon.
UW is hoping the injury bug’s visit is a solo one this season.
Defensive tackles Dante Drake and Caleb Robinson’s seasons have ended before they started, as both suffered Achilles tendon injuries during summer workouts.
