Travel Leaders Share Insights on Trump 2.0 Era
The landscape of the travel industry faces a significant shift as Donald Trump and the Republican Party assume control over the White House, both chambers of the legislature, and a likely majority in the Supreme Court. This shift represents a consolidation of power with potential long-lasting implications.
An Overview of Industry Sentiments
At Skift, we sought to understand what the new administration could mean for the travel sector by reaching out to a diverse network of industry leaders. Participants were asked to describe the impact in three words or less to promote candor and concise responses. The feedback was robust, including contributions from 16 CEOs of major travel brands.
Approximately 66% of respondents expressed either neutral or positive views about the new administration, anticipating an economic boost that could benefit tourism and hospitality. However, many emphasized that this business optimism did not necessarily translate to personal support for Trump’s policies.
Meanwhile, around 34% of participants shared negative opinions, particularly among those in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Concerns primarily centered on potential risks to government travel funding.
