CEO pay at FTSE 100 companies hit a record high of £4.58m over the past financial year. It is the third time in a row that their salaries have reached new levels. The research was compiled by the High Pay Centre think-tank. It has sparked questions about fairness and equity amid the UK’s cost of living crisis.

The research compiled by the High Pay Centre think-tank also showed that the number of FTSE 100 companies paying their CEOs £10m or more grew by 30% to 13 firms in 2024-25.
Median FTSE 100 (^FTSE) CEO pay was 120 times that of the median full-time British worker, the research showed.

Discontent over wages and working conditions is rife in the UK. Thousands of workers have carried out strike action this year over pay, including doctors, refuse collectors and university workers.
A group of 100 workers based at Edinburgh airport are among the latest to announce a strike, following a dispute over what they described as a “poverty pay offer”.
The High Pay Centre has put forward recommendations to tackle the issue, such as reforming corporate reporting on pay, but we wanted to know what you thought.
Earlier this week, we asked whether you thought there should be a cap on CEO pay. Our poll received 192 votes, with 59% agreeing with the idea of a cap, 34% disagreeing and 7% undecided.
