SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18.

The incident happened in the 1600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.

When officers got out there, they found two people, one of which was fatally shot. She was taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 11:07 p.m.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office later identified her as Labriesha Patterson, 28.

The passenger told SPD they were driving eastbound on MLK Drive when a black car pulled up beside them and started shooting. That’s when Patterson was fatally shot multiple times.

SPD says both cars then lost control and crashed. The shooters got out of their car and ran into a wooded area.

Deceldrion Gay, 19

Tywann Gibson, 17

On Thursday, August 21, the fourth suspect, Semaj Mitchell, was arrested.

In his current photograph, Mitchell has several injuries. SPD says that these injuries happened on the day of the incident.

Mitchell was allegedly hanging out of the window while the car was moving, and he was firing at the victim’s car. The car crashed, and he reportedly fell, getting injured at that time.

Three suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a fatal shooting.

During the beginning of the investigation, Gay was identified and taken into custody. During the interview with Gay, officers identified the other two teens.

All three suspects are being charged with second-degree murder.

“This was a cowardly act of violence that tragically claimed the life of an innocent woman. Thanks to the tireless work, planning, and teamwork of our investigators and specialized units, we were able to quickly identify and apprehend multiple suspects. These young men will be held accountable for their actions,” says SPD Chief Smith.

The Shreveport Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18.

Public information officer for SPD, Cpl. Chris Bordelon, says it’s believed the group was looking for someone else, and that Patterson was not their intended target.

“What we’ve determined is the victim in this case is truly an innocent victim. She had nothing to do with these gentlemen and what was going on. And this is just one of those cases,” Bordelon said. “It’s absolutely disturbing because she was just trying to live her life and go about doing what she was doing, and these guys gunned her down in cold blood.”

Bordelon went on to praise the hard work of the detectives who worked the case. He also spoke about the need to curb violence like this in the city.

“You know, unfortunately, we see this happen throughout the course of our history here in Shreveport and throughout the country, and it’s something that we have to do. We have to get rid of this culture of young males who think they’re tough with a gun in their hand. Having a gun in your hand does not make you tough, and firing it at random individuals does not make you tough. It makes you a coward. And for us to condone that as a society, any part of our society is disgusting, and we have to get rid of it,” Bordelon said.

He said at least one of the suspects has violence in his criminal background.

On Tuesday afternoon, Shreveport City Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor called on the community to stand against crime.

“We have made great strides in combating crime because of the community and technology. If you know who is responsible, say something because we do not need to remain silent. Call Shreveport Police or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. Turning people in is not betrayal, it is an act of love and protection for our families,” she said. “This is our city, our children, and our future. We must stand up together.”

Patterson’s death marks the 24th homicide in Shreveport in 2025.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A 19-year-old Fort Wayne man charged in a deadly weekend shooting has been arrested.

BACKGROUND: 1 dead following shooting on Fort Wayne’s north side

Jamoni Burton is charged with murder in connection with the death of 16-year-old Kardenai Anthony Hollis, who was gunned down at Woodbridge Apartments early Saturday.

Once the victim was identified, tips began coming in that a person named “JB” was the gunman, according to court documents obtained by 21Investigates.

COURT DOCS: Fort Wayne man wanted in deadly weekend shooting of 16-year-old

Multiple tips pointed police directly to Burton, including someone sending his Instagram account to police and another tipster saying the victim had previously robbed the suspect, court records say. A third person claimed to be friends with the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.

They alleged Burton called his ex-girlfriend and told her he was going away for a long time, as well as admitting to the shooting, court documents show. Burton’s ex-girlfriend denied he admitted to the shooting when she spoke with detectives, but said he told her “this will be the last time you hear from me cause ill probably be in jail.”

She told detectives she put it together after seeing people posting about Hollis, court records say. The ex-girlfriend said Burton told her he was robbed several days before the shooting and that he wanted to get back at them despite her warning to leave it alone.

Police served a warrant at Burton’s home this week and spoke to people there, who claimed he called them the night of the shooting and said he “got into some s*** woo woo woo” and to “check the news,” court documents show. During a search of the home, crime scene technicians located a Draco pistol with a magazine and PPU (Prvi Partizan) ammunition, the same bullets that were found at the shooting scene.

The gun was allegedly found under Burton’s bed in his room.

Burton was booked into the Allen County Jail on Thursday. He has an initial hearing in the case scheduled for Friday morning.
