Man steals from business, steals getaway car, and attempts to break into home, authorities say
A homeless man is accused of stealing from a business, then stealing a vehicle. Police say he later tried to break into a home with a crowbar. Benjamin Hoven, 38, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property.
The Mobile Police Department says officers were called out to the 7000 block of Three Notch Road on Thursday around 12 p.m. in reference to a stolen vehicle.
Officers say a man entered the business, took merchandise, and left without paying. The man then allegedly stole an unlocked vehicle, with the keys left inside. Police say he drove away from the business in the stolen vehicle.
Later, the suspect was seen attempting to break into a home with a crowbar in the 5200 block of Quimby Drive, according to MPD.
Benjamin Hoven, 38, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property and third-degree attempted burglary.
