The case pertains to the brutal assault and killing of 28-year-old Nikki, who was killed by her husband and in-laws by beating her up and setting her on fire at their residence in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village on Thursday over frequent dowry demands.

Horrific videos of the incident surfaced online, showing the husband dragging Nikki by her hair and unleashing a brutal assault on her. In another video, the victim woman was seen in flames on the stairs.

Kanchan, the woman’s elder sister who is married in the same family, said that they were being tortured by in-laws and their husbands for Rs 35 lakh dowry, despite all their demands, which included expensive gifts like Scorpio, Bullet bike and gold, being met earlier.

The family alleged that the women’s husbands continued to demand more and more day by day. Nine years into their marriage, Vipin and his family tortured Nikki and Kanchan over a Rs 35 lakh dowry demand. Meanwhile, the victim’s father has demanded that the accused husband be hanged to death for committing such a crime.

While speaking to news agency ANI, Bhikari Singh Payla, the father, said that Vipin started harassing and torturing Nikki just a few days after the marriage for dowry.

He also claimed that Nikki did not want him to worry about her, and she tried her best to make the marriage work. Payla said that she even started her own work, but her greedy husband began demanding the money she earned.

Meanwhile, Vipin claimed that he did not kill Nikki, the victim, and “she died on her own”. Videos of him brutally assaulting his wife surfaced online, but he said that he has “no remorse”. Shortly before his arrest on Saturday, Vipin implied in a social media post that she died by suicide.

His remarks came while lying on a hospital bed after being shot in the leg during an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police as he tried to escape custody, a day after his arrest in his wife’s murder case.
