MAYETTA, Kan. (WIBW) – With preseason football underway and the college season kicking off, sports betting is surging once again.

A marquee matchup for Kansas State and a home opener for Kansas in week 0 made for the perfect start to the busy season for Prairie Band Sportsbook.

“There’s only five college football games tomorrow, and two of our local schools are kicking it off, so we anticipate a packed room,” said manager Kyle Sipe. “K-State kicks off the day early, and KU is kind of the nightcap, so we hope to have it rolling all day tomorrow.”

Since launching in January of 2024, the Sportsbook has been an asset for the casino, driving up attendance and revenue. The liveliness of the atmosphere is what makes it stand out from betting through your phone.

“You get it packed, people cheering, giving high fives, and it’s a different experience.”

When long-time Chiefs fan Travis Wanna isn’t at Arrowhead on game day, you’ll find him there. While he never places a wager that’s too high, he says the rush is incomparable when a bet hits.

“It’s fun,” Wanna said. “I might do a dance or something, go tell my friends or whoever is here with me.”
