Adam Sandler, George Clooney and Laura Dern attended the Venice Film Festival premiere of “Jay Kelly” Clooney was absent from the press conference due to a sinus infection. The film is due out in theaters Nov. 14 and on Netflix Dec. 5. The cast also includes Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Grace Edwards, Patrick Wilson, Greta Gerwig, Isla Fisher and Emily Mortimer.
The costars reveled in an 8.5-minute standing ovation Thursday, Aug. 28, for their new movie “Jay Kelly,” which has garnered early Oscar buzz.
The “Ocean’s Eleven” star, 64, plays the title character in “Jay Kelly,” which centers on a famous actor who “embarks on a journey of self discovery confronting both his past and present, accompanied by his devoted manager Ron,” played by 58-year-old Sandler, per Netflix’s synopsis.
In the film, his entourage exits stage left including a publicist portrayed by Laura Dern.
In red carpet photos, the trio stunned ahead of the film’s release, in theaters Nov. 14 and on Netflix Dec. 5.
Clooney – who skipped another Venice event due to being sick with a sinus infection – also posed with wife Amal Clooney at the “Jay Kelly” red carpet premiere Thursday night. The humanitarian and lawyer wore a strapless, ruched fuchsia dress that bared her legs and left a dramatic train trailing behind her at the high-profile event. Clooney, donning a black bowtie, looked dapper in a dark suit.
The cast of “Jay Kelly” also includes Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Grace Edwards, Patrick Wilson, Greta Gerwig and Isla Fisher. Earlier Thursday, Clooney was absent from the Venice press conference for “Jay Kelly.”
“George has been diagnosed with a sinus infection and is under doctors orders to cut back all activities today,” Simon Halls, a representative for the actor, confirmed to USA TODAY.
The press conference went forward without Clooney, with director Noah Baumbach and stars Sandler, Dern, Crudup and Emily Mortimer speaking to reporters. “Even movie stars get sick,” Baumbach quipped.
