It seems that the secret’s out about local summer along the Jersey Shore.
Travel + Leisure ranked the Jersey Shore as a top destination to travel to in September, joining 20 other domestic and foreign destinations around the world.
While it may be the last few days of summer, there’s still some time this month to visit these towns before the chilly fall air sets in.
Here’s what this national ranking had to say about our state’s beaches.
What Jersey Shore towns made the list?
The standout factors for them including the Jersey Shore in the ranking had to do with the state’s 90 miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches, warm weather and warm ocean waves, according to Travel + Leisure.
High praise was given to Atlantic City’s boardwalk with Steel Pier and a variety of nightlife options.
Standout events such as the Wildwoods Thunder Over the Waves Airshow on Sept. 5-6 in Wildwood also took center stage, featuring performances by military jets, stunt pilots, vintage aircraft displays and expert parachuters.
Plus, there’s a two-mile boardwalk in Wildwood to enjoy the roller coasters, water parks, arcades and shops alongside the beach itself.
Cape May received high marks for its Victorian architecture with its 600 preserved Victorian buildings for visitors to enjoy.
The publication also highlighted two different lodging options in Cape May.
The Virginia Hotel, an adults-only boutique hotel, is currently offering a package that includes a two-day beach tent rental on the beach a block away from the hotel with lounge chairs, table, cooler and $50 resort credit included through Oct. 13 — well past the warm days of September into fall.
The other lodging option highlighted was Congress Hall, the oldest seaside resort in America.
