Heroes on the Hill raising mental health awareness for veterans, first responders
Heroes on the Hill raises money for the SEAL Foundation and Heroes Helping Heroes for mental health services. Organizers hope to expand the event to other states, but in Minnesota, they plan to bring it back to Buck Hill on Sept. 5 next year. Last year, $5,000 was raised for those organizations.
“It’s just really nice to support a good cause that gives back,” said Brianna Cline, a state trooper.
The Heroes on the Hill event had around 40 participants with teams that made up State Patrol, Rosemount Fire Department, former Navy SEALS and civilians.
“They’re taking on the hill. It’s 220 feet of gain in one mile loops,” said Julie Pagano, co-founder of Heroes on the Hill.
Pagano says it’s the second year, and runners always have a buddy by their side.
“I think it’s opened my eyes to the way that we can have movement being medicine, and allowing our people to get out here, or our teammates to get out here and connect with each other,” Pagano said.
She says the event raises money for the SEAL Foundation and Heroes Helping Heroes for mental health services.
Last year, $5,000 was raised for those organizations.
“We’re here to help them deal with some of the traumas and stress that they deal with on an everyday basis, especially with all of the sad news and things that are happening in our world,” said Pagano.
