Africa CDC and Unitaid partner to strengthen equitable access to health products in Africa – Africa CDC
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and Unitaid have formed a new strategic partnership. The Memorandum of Understanding focuses on scaling up regional manufacturing as a central pillar of Africa’s health security and autonomy. The two institutions will coordinate efforts to overcome regulatory, financing, and market challenges that hold back regional production. The collaboration also aims to improve pandemic preparedness by supporting the development and availability of health tools that are designed, produced, and delivered within Africa. The joint work will be guided by a shared action plan and regular progress reviews to ensure sustained momentum and accountability. The agreement was signed on the margins of the 78th World Health Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on September 14-15, 2013. High-level event kicks off expansion of strategic EU-AU partnership, pledging joint commitments to strengthen Global Health and African Health Sovereignty – Africa CDC
The African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Union hosted a High-level Conference marking the expansion of the strategic EU-AU health partnership. The AU and EU expanded collaboration in priority areas of common interest in the New Public Health Order and the EU Global Health Strategy. They also expressed their commitment to conclude negotiations on a pandemic agreement and International Health Regulations by the May 2024 World Health Assembly. The establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) marks a crucial step forward in safeguarding health security on the continent by ensuring the availability and the accessibility of quality pharmaceutical products. The EU has expertise in health as well as manufacturing and access, including regulation of health products and has set out clear targets in supporting human development in its international partnerships. European countries have some of the best and most accessible healthcare in the world. Global health is an area in which the EU offers a unique selling proposition by focusing on its cooperation on this front. Our focus will be on building affordable, available and high-quality healthcare systems.

ASLM Partners Africa CDC on Diagnostic Agenda in Africa | Business
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) has partnered with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to address existing barriers towards advancing the diagnostic agenda in Africa. This strategic partnership was announced during a press conference held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. Other partners on this initiative include: Institut de Recherche, de Surveillance Epidémiologique et de Formation (IRESSEF), World Health Organization Africa Regional Office (WHO-AFRO), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) and UNITAID. The initiative aims to address diagnostic gaps holistically. The identification of complementarities, overlaps and gaps will provide clarity about whether end-to-end solutions exist and are being implemented.
