The Mets are among the team to have checked in on Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara as a trade possibility, according to Mike Puma. The 29-year-old right-handed pitcher missed all of the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and he has a rather unsightly 6.66 ERA with a 4.48 FIP in 104.0 innings with the Marlins so far this year.

Those numbers have been pretty bad all season long, as Alcantara has a 5.93 ERA over his past seven starts dating back to June 16. And he hasn’t put together a good month yet this season with ERAs of 8.31 in March/April, 8.64 in May, 4.34 in June, and 5.63 in July. Despite those struggles, Puma’s report notes that the asking price for Alcantara is rather steep.

Before having his surgery, Alcantara had at times been one of the better pitchers in the game. He had a 3.32 ERA from his major league debut in 2017 through the end of the 2023 season, and he had a particularly great year in 2022, as he took home National League Cy Young honors after finishing the season with a 2.28 ERA in a staggering-for-the-current-state-of-baseball 228.2 innings of work.

Alcantara’s contract has him earning $17 million this year and next, and there’s a 2027 team option for $21 million with a $2 million buyout. If you think he could be the pitcher he used to be, that would be a steal. If you think he’s just going to be the pitcher he’s been in 2025, that’s not so great.

Mets Daily Prospect Report, 6/27/25: It’s Morbin’ time

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat Portland 1-0. The Brooklyn Cyclones lost to the Jersey Shore Blue Claws 5-1. The FCL Cardinals beat the St. Lucie Mets 9-4. Bryce Jenkins went on a rehab assignment to the FCL Mets. The Mets will have a day off on Friday.

POSTPONED (RAIN)

BINGHAMTON 2, PORTLAND 1 (BOX)

Four hits were all Binghamton needed in this one, with RBIs from Nick Morabito and Jacob Reimer supporting a stellar pitching performance from Joander Suarez and two relievers. You better believe that Ryan Lambert was involved too, striking out the side for his third save with the Rumble Ponies. Carson Benge was on base three times and stole two bases; so was Nick Morabito, though he only stole one.

JERSEY SHORE 5, BROOKLYN 1 / 11 (BOX)

A Brooklyn loss? That’s a rarity. They Cyclones allowed the Blue Claws to rally back from 3-0 down and ultimately lost in 11. Saul Garcia was saddled with the loss after allowing a two RBI single in the top of that frame, and the Cyclones only managed the one run in the bottom half.

Roster Alert: Brooklyn Cyclones sent RHP Bryce Jenkins on a rehab assignment to FCL Mets.

JUPITER 6, ST. LUCIE 0 (BOX)

Not much going St. Lucie’s way in this one. A paltry three hits, two unearned runs, and a bullpen collapse late. Get ‘em tomorrow.

FCL CARDINALS 9, FCL METS 4 (BOX)

Betting tips

Best/worst pitcher/hitter matchups and betting projections are generated by THE BAT X, a system created by Derek Carty using advanced methods like those used in MLB front offices, accounting for a variety of factors including player talent, ballparks, bullpens, weather, umpires, defense, catcher pitch-framing, and lots more. Betting projections for every player, team, and game can be found at EV Analytics.

Note: Expected value is a measure of how good a bet is, factoring the probability that it will win versus the odds the book is providing. If you were to wager $1.00 100 times on a bet with an expected value of $25, you would win some and you would lose some, but in the end you would expect to come away with $25 in profit on your $100 investment.

Today’s top home run prop bets

Brenton Doyle | OVER 0.5 HR (+900)

Projection: 12% chance of this bet hitting, with a $20.10 EV

One reason to bet this: Doyle has been unlucky in regards to his wOBA this year; his .278 figure is significantly deflated relative to his .308 Expected wOBA, based on my interpretation of Statcast data.

Ezequiel Tovar | OVER 0.5 HR (+1000)

Projection: 11% chance of this bet hitting, with a $16.27 EV

One reason to bet this: The wind projects to be blowing out to left field at 11.5-mph in this game, the second-best of the day for bats.

Nolan Gorman | OVER 0.5 HR (+450)

Projection: 21% chance of this bet hitting, with a $13.25 EV

One reason to bet this: The weather forecast expects temperatures in this contest to reach the highest level of all games on the slate at 83 degrees, which is highly linked to an increase in offense (and a reduction in strikeouts).

Today’s top pitcher prop bets

Cam Schlittler | UNDER 6.5 K (-140)

Projection: 70% chance of this bet hitting, with a $28.96 EV

One reason to bet this: Schlittler has had some good luck with his strikeouts this year, notching a 10.23 K/9 despite my projections estimating his true talent level to be 9.53 — a 0.69 K/9 discrepancy.

Luis Morales | OVER 3.5 K (+110)

Projection: 53% chance of this bet hitting, with a $10.86 EV

One reason to bet this: Morales’s 96.7-mph fastball velocity this year ranks in the 96th percentile among all starters.

Logan Gilbert | OVER 6.5 K (-115)

Projection: 59% chance of this bet hitting, with a $12.02 EV

One reason to bet this: In terms of temperature and humidity, the weather report projects the third-most suitable pitching conditions of the day.

Today’s Top YRFI/NRFI Bets

Rangers @ Guardians | NRFI (-115)

Projection: 55% chance of NO RUN with a $4.30 EV

Orioles @ Yankees | YRFI (-120)

Projection: 56% chance of RUN with a $3.71 EV

Mets @ Marlins | NRFI (-105)

Projection: 52% chance of NO RUN with a $2.56 EV
