Gurgaon’s daytime temperature falls by 3C as rain brings nip to October air
Showers began around 4pm in several parts of the city, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Earlier in the day, the city recorded 18.5 mm of rain till 8.30am. The minimum temperature settled at 20.5°C, 0.4 degrees lower than the previous day, while humidity levels remained high throughout the morning . The maximum temperature settled at 29.1°C — a significant 3.1-degree decline.
According to the revenue and disaster management department, Gurgaon’s average rainfall was 34 mm.
IMD has issued forecasts for rainfall and thunderstorms across southern Haryana, including Gurgaon, Taoru, Rewari, Pataudi, Kosli and Jhajjar.
Wind speeds are expected to reach 30–40 kmph, potentially affecting visibility and road conditions. Other districts like Bahadurgarh, Kaithal, Ambala, Panchkula and Chandigarh are also likely to experience moderate to light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning through the evening.
Officials noted that the rain is expected to further lower daytime temperatures and improve air quality across the region.
However, they urged commuters to exercise caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility in some areas.
Dr Vishwas Chitale, fellow, Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), said, “Even as the southwest monsoon withdraws, northwest India continues to see significant weather activity due to a strong western disturbance. A CEEW study has found that more than half of India’s tehsils have seen an increase in Oct rainfall in the last decade (2011–2022) compared to the 1982–2011 average.

This trend, likely linked to the delayed withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, is concerning as Oct coincides with the harvesting season for many kharif crops and unseasonal rain during this period can cause significant crop losses.

Meanwhile, Delhi got light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday due to an active western disturbance. The skies turned grey and daytime visibility reduced. The rain affected flight operations.
At least 15 flights were diverted to nearby airports and over 100 flights were delayed.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the first spell of showers happened between 2.30 am and 5.30 am, followed by an intense downpour later in the day between 2.30 pm and 8.30 pm. From Wednesday onwards, rain is unlikely.
The maximum temperature was 29.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal. It was 26.5 degrees Celsius the day before. The minimum temperature on Tuesday was 21 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below normal.
