PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A man who police say was booted from a Peoria sports bar Tuesday night died in a shooting after being asked to leave the bar.

Police responded to the reported shooting just before midnight at Deli Sports Bar near the Loop 101 Agua Fria freeway and Peoria Avenue. Officers pronounced a man dead at the scene, and another person was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said the incident began when an unruly patron was asked to leave the bar due to being “extremely intoxicated.” The man then went to his vehicle, grabbed a gun and started firing shots in the air and into the bar.

Kristopher Babros with Peoria Police said two people on a nearby bench saw what was happening, and one of them used his gun to shoot and kill the patron. The patron who died has not yet been identified.

One person inside the bar was injured in the shooting, Babros said, but he has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.

Babros commended the witnesses who intervened for neutralizing the suspect before any other innocent people were hurt.

Peoria PD said there is no threat to the community.

No road closures are in effect in the area, but the parking lot of this business will be blocked off for detectives to investigate.
