Delhi has registered 23 coronavirus cases, prompting the BJP government to direct hospitals to maintain the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders, testing kits, and vaccines. Health Minister Pankaj Singh said there was no need to panic as the latest variant was “like a common influenza only”.
Delhi has also directed hospitals to upload daily Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases on the integrated health data platform.
Delhi-NCR cities like Noida and Ghaziabad have also registered coronavirus cases. On Saturday, Noida reported the first Covid patient (55) in the ongoing wave. Ghaziabad has also reported four cases so far.
Kerala, with 273 Covid infections in May, has reported the maximum cases, prompting the Health Minister to direct all districts to increase surveillance. The state has made masks mandatory in hospitals, and has advised people with cough symptoms to wear face coverings.
Neighbouring Karnataka has also witnessed a slight uptick in Covid cases , registering 35 infections. Among them is a nine-month-old baby from Hoskote. Those with symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) have been advised to get tested.
Mumbai has reported 95 cases so far in May, accounting for most of Maharashtra’s total Covid infections. However, the hospitalisation rate has been low, with only 16 patients admitted. The BMC has advised Covid testing for all patients with SARI symptoms.
advertisement In Maharashtra’s Thane, as many as 10 cases of Covid have been detected over the last three days. The health department said sufficient stocks of medicines have been maintained at all health centres.
Even though Andhra Pradesh has not seen any spike, it has instructed health facilities to maintain adequate supplies of vaccines, PPE kits, and triple-layer masks. Those returning from Covid-affected countries, mostly Asian nations, have been advised to undergo testing.
