Yankees 5, Dodgers 3

The Yankees have not been swept this season, while the Dodgers have not completed a sweep since April. The Yankees are 17-13 on the road and 21-15 against teams with a winning record. The Dodgers are 21-8 at Dodger Stadium and 22-18 against teams with winning records.

Yankees promote ex-18-game winner for Dodgers finale

Carlos Carrasco has been promoted from Triple-A Scranton to the New York Yankees. He will join the team in the last game of their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees have lost 18-2 to the Dodgers in the series so far. The team does have an off day, but that didn’t stop them from making changes. The hope is that he can come in and help the team get a win in the final game of the series.

The New York Yankees’ bullpen hasn’t done well in their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it showed in their latest game. The team does have an off day coming up, but that didn’t stop them from making changes, as Carlos Carrasco will be joining the team in the last game of their series against the Dodgers, according to Jack Curry of YES Network.

“Carlos Carrasco has been promoted from Triple-A Scranton and will join the Yankees for tonight’s game in L.A.,” Curry wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Carrasco made six starts for the Yankees and two relief appearances in April as the team tried to find bodies as they dealt with a series of injuries in the pitching rotation. With options such as Allan Winans and Clayton Beeter both recently pitching in minor league play, Carrasco made the most sense for the Yankees to promote at late notice.

In the eight games that Carrasco has played in this season, he’s pitched to a 5.91 ERA with a 1.531 WHIP. He was designated for assignment in May, but decided to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A instead of being a free agent. The hope is that Carrasco can come in and help the team get a win in the series finale against the Dodgers, as they recently lost 18-2 to them.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke about the tough loss and also gave some words of encouragement to pitcher Will Warren, who allowed seven earned runs in less than two innings of work.

“I think the one thing he has shown here early in his big league career, is that he has learned a lot from every situation,” Boone said, via YES Network. “From adversity through some success, this is a hard game and you’re going to take your lump sometimes.

“He has all the equipment to move right through this, and be excellent like he has been for much of the season.”

To avoid getting swept, the team is going to have to start the game better and make sure things don’t get out of control. Despite their performance over the past few games, they’re still 35-22 and in first place in the AL East.

The Yankees are looking to avoid a sweep when they play the Dodgers again on Sunday night.

Yankees have mostly looked woeful in the Dodgers series

New York came out in Game 1 looking strong against the Dodgers, but the team has faded since that promising start. The Bronx Bombers blew a lead to lose that first game Friday. Then on Saturday, New York allowed a whopping 18 runs.

There is some good news for the Yankees. Aaron Judge blasted two more home runs for the team on Saturday, helping to keep his batting average and stats near the top of Major League Baseball.

The Bronx Bombers have to fix their pitching, though. New York has allowed 26 runs in just two games to the defending World Series champions. The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy have both had multi-home run games in the series.

Following Saturday’s loss, the Yankees dropped to 35-22 on the campaign.

Carrasco made six starts and two relief appearances for the Yankees from March 29 to May 4 while their rotation was ravaged by injuries. After going 2-2 with a 5.91 ERA, he was designated for assignment.

Carrasco cleared waivers, however, and accepted an outright assignment to the minors, remaining in New York’s system.

The Yankees were in need of pitching help after losing 18-2 on Saturday. They used six of their eight relievers in the rout, including Brent Headrick and Yerry De Los Santos for the second day in a row, which made them unavailable Sunday. They also used position player Pablo Reyes in the eighth inning.

To make room for Carrasco on the active roster, De Los Santos was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The New York Yankees were blown out in LA on Saturday, falling 18-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. It is always highly anticipated when these two teams meet, but this matchup was especially notable since these two teams faced off in the 2024 World Series.

Los Angeles defeated New York in five games last October, and have continued that dominance through two games this weekend. Taking the series opener 8-5, Los Angeles followed that performance with a dominant 18-2 victory on Saturday.

The Yankees have already added one reinforcement ahead of Sunday’s game, recalling Carlos Carrasco, but another potential Triple-A option is now off the table.
