The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release on June 5, and almost every major retailer in the US has a game plan for launch day. For example, Walmart has already confirmed it will have Switch 2 stock available on June 5 from 12 AM ET (online and in-store).

Let’s sift through the rest of the plans, from midnight launch events to pre-planned out-of-stock signs. Here’s what you need to know going into the Switch 2 release day.

Walmart: Available From June 5, 12 AM ET

Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle 62 $529.99 save 6% $499.00 at Walmart Walmart is taking a straightforward route for the Switch 2 launch. Consoles will be available both in-store and online starting June 5, with online sales going live at 12 AM ET. That gives customers a solid shot at ordering from home if they’re quick when the clock hits midnight. In-store stock will also be available, but there are no signs of a midnight launch event. Stores are expected to open at their usual times, so if you’re planning to shop in person, you’ll need to get there early to have a chance at walk-in inventory. If you preordered through Walmart, your console is expected to arrive by 9 AM local time on June 5… assuming it hasn’t been quietly cancelled. Given Walmart’s spotty track record during big launches, it’s worth double-checking your order status ahead of time. Nintendo Switch 2 — Console – $449.00

Best Buy: In-Store Launch Events

Credit: Best Buy

Best Buy is planning a full-scale retail rollout for the Nintendo Switch 2, with special late-night store openings across the US on launch night (see if your store is participating here).

This gives fans a chance to pick up their pre-orders (check your email for collection instructions) or try their luck at securing a system on release night (confirmed, but extremely limited stock per location).

Participating locations will open their doors precisely at 12 AM ET on June 5, with doors unlocking earlier in other time zones: 11 PM CT and 9 PM PT for a two-hour window dedicated to Switch 2 sales and pickups.

Play

Unlike some retailers, Best Buy won’t have Switch 2 hardware available online at launch. Consoles will only be sold in stores for the time being. Games and accessories, however, will be available both online and in-store.

Best Buy is also offering a limited-edition commemorative coin at these launch events, available to anyone picking up or purchasing a Switch 2 in person. The coin features dual branding from Nintendo and Best Buy and is expected to be in short supply.

Target: In-Store June 5, Online June 6

Target is taking a more straightforward approach to the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. There is no midnight event planned, and stores will open at their regular hours on June 5. Consoles will be available in-store that morning, with additional online inventory opening up on June 6.

To help manage demand, Target will use a ticketing system for both in-store and online sales. These tickets, which may be distributed physically or digitally, will be handed out in the lead-up to opening.

Distribution will stop once tickets run out or ten minutes before the store opens. If you want to buy in person, arriving early is strongly recommended.

That gives you two clear options. Head to your local store early on launch day and hope to claim a ticket, or wait until the next day and try ordering online once restocks go live.

GameStop: Launch Line Starts at 3PM Local Time

GameStop is allowing its customers to line up as early as 3 PM local time for it’s Switch 2 launch events.

Even if you didn’t preorder the console, GameStop promises there will be additional Switch 2 units available when doors open at midnight. There’s still no word on additional online stock, however.

It’s important to note that not every GameStop store will participate in this early lineup or midnight opening, so checking in with your local store ahead of time is essential.

When a new piece of elusive gaming hardware goes back in stock at a retailer, there’s no telling how long it will be available.

We’ve seen sought-after hardware sell out in seconds, and it’s been no different for Switch 2 so far.

So, with demand at stratospheric levels for preorders, here are some key tips to improve your chances of getting the console at launch.

Nintendo Switch 2 Games: Where to Preorder

Nintendo Switch 2 is already building a stacked library of games, blending shiny new exclusives with upgraded re-releases of fan favorites.

Heavyweights like Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) and Mario Kart World ($79.99) are leading the charge, both available to preorder right now, alongside enhanced versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, fine-tuned for the new hardware.

There’s also a new version of Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land currently up for Switch 2 preorder, alongside some new third-party selections like Cyberpunk 2077 and Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Where to Preorder Switch 2 Games

Every Switch 2 game that is available to lock in is listed above, with all the retailer links you’ll need right there as well. We’ve also broken out a list of just the Switch 2 launch games available to buy if you’re looking for games you’ll be able to play right away.

For those who already own the games, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will cost $9.99 to upgrade from the original Switch 1 game to Switch 2 (or for free if you’ve already purchased the base game and are a Nintendo Online subscriber).

While Nintendo has also quietly confirmed the cost of upgrading Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree to Switch 2: It’s £16.99 / €19.99 / $19.99.

Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories: Where to Preorder

Nintendo hasn’t touched the price of the Switch 2 console itself, but almost every accessory has crept up in cost. In a recent update, the company confirmed that several Switch 2 peripherals will “experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions.” Read: Tariffs mean that pretty much everything is a little more expensive now.

Expect to pay an extra $5 for the main accessories, including the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the much-hyped camera add-on. The Dock Set sees the biggest jump, climbing $10 to $119.99.

Still, if you’re planning to pick up the full ecosystem at launch, above is the full list of accessories currently up for preorder, price hike or not, alongside every retailer you can preorder from just below as well.

Our live blog is filled with details on what the big retailers are doing on launch day. But what about the smaller/local retailers? One retailer I recommend keeping an eye on is Newegg. They have product pages ready to go for the Switch 2 and in the past they’ve been a go-to source for things like GPU launches. I don’t know what their plan is for the Switch 2, but keep these links below handy should stock suddenly appear. Switch 2: for $449 @ Newegg

Walmart availability starts at midnight… As we inch closer to midnight, Walmart is reminding shoppers how they can go about purchasing a Switch 2 come launch day. Restock alert: Bundles available at Very (UK) I just did a quick sweep of Switch 2 pre-order stock in the UK and it looks like Very once again has some bundles available for purchase. (They’ve been one of the most consistent UK retailers with stock, if you ask me). Some of the bundles are a bit on the pricey side, which is why I personally like the Mario Kart World with Tears of the Kingdom bundle for £494. Check out what’s in stock via the links below. Switch 2 has arrived at Tom’s Guide HQ… Our Switch 2 has arrived! Tom’s Guide managing editor of social and video Kate Kozuch has whipped up a quick video of the products we have, which you can check out below. Reminder: GameStop’s launch event starts today! (Image credit: Shutterstock) If you’re hoping to score a Switch 2 in person today, GameStop should be one of your top options. Similar to Best Buy, GameStop will have a Switch 2 launch event with the opportunity for walk-ins to purchase a console. However, GameStop’s launch event begins today (June 4) at 3pm local time. If you pre-ordered, pickups start at 12am (ET) / 9pm (PT). If that’s not enough, GameStop Pro members will get a free can of Red Bull. You can check our your local store’s plans via the GameStop store locator.

Best Buy launch day restock will be in-store only (Image credit: Shutterstock) Best Buy has posted a FAQ about Nintendo Switch 2 midnight launch (12:01 AM ET June 5/9:01 PM PT June 4) https://t.co/MjrLjp4sTv pic.twitter.com/T6sHei1EJEJune 3, 2025 If you’re hoping to grab a Switch 2 at Best Buy on launch day, you’ll want to get your skates on and be prepared to start queuing well in advance of the midnight launch. The retailer has confirmed in a new FAQ that it won’t have any inventory available online during launch week. Only games and accessories will be sold online, all console stock will be reserved to be sold in brick-and-mortar Best Buy locations. This is likely a move to avoid the Best Buy website getting crushed like it did back in April when pre-orders first went live. Local opening times will vary based on region, so make sure to check, and remember that eager shoppers will likely start lining up well in advance. Available in-store stock will also be limited, but Best Buy could offer one of the best chances on launch day to get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2.

Switch 2 pre-orders are starting to ship (Image credit: Tom’s Guide) If you have a Switch 2 pre-order (lucky you!), you might want to check your order and emails as I’m seeing plenty of reports on social media of Switch 2’s starting to ship today ahead of the release day (June 5). It’s time to get hyped, Switch 2 is almost here! I am also seeing a few unhappy people note they’ve received an unwelcome notification that their order has been delayed and won’t be delivered in time for launch. So, check your pre-order today, just to make sure yours is on the way.

Just one more day until Switch 2 (Image credit: Nintendo) We’re truly in the endgame now as Nintendo Switch 2 launches tomorrow (June 5). It’s been a long road to get to this point, and we’re not giving up at the final sprint, so we’re still tracking Switch 2 stock across retailers today, even though the odds of any Switch 2 pre-orders seem fairly remote. Any retailers with stock at present will likely be saving their inventory for a larger launch day drop. But the good news is even if there are no Switch 2 pre-order restocks today, we know that tomorrow is going to see plenty of new opportunities to purchase a console.

Here’s one way to lower the price of the Switch 2… (Image credit: Future) If the Switch 2’s price tag is still holding you back, I’ve got some good news to share. A handful of retailers are offering up to $175 for your old Switch console. From Amazon to Walmart, I’ve looked at all of the big box retailers and listed what each one is offering for your old gear. You’ll be paid in store credits most of the time, but it’s a nice way to get a few bucks off your Switch 2. You can even use those store credits to purchase some new games or accessories for your Switch 2. Check out the best Switch trade-in deals here.

Switch 2 ‘out of stock’ signs make an appearance… We all know that the Switch 2 will probably sell out on launch day. Shoppers know it, retailers know it, and Nintendo knows it too. That’s why Nintendo has apparently created Switch 2 ‘out of stock’ signs, many of which are already making their way to retailers, according to VGC. If you work at a retail store, these signs will no doubt make your life easier. But here’s hoping it takes awhile before we see them!

Very is down to its last Switch 2 bundle (UK) And then there was one… Very restocked a bunch of Switch 2 bundles earlier this week, but now there’s just a single listing left. This package includes the Switch 2, a Pro Controller and a 25GB Samsung microSD card for £520. It’s a pretty pricey bundle considering the Switch 2 retails for £395 on its own, but if you’re looking to lock in your console this side of launch, it’s your best option in the U.K. right now. But I’d suggest being quick, as this stock likely won’t last much longer. Shop all Nintendo consoles/accessories @ Very

TG played 6 hours of Mario Kart World! (Image credit: Nintendo) My colleague, Tony Polanco, just played 6 hours of Mario Kart World, and I swear I’m not jealous… Okay, so that’s a total lie. His early impressions are only making the wait until I have a Switch 2 with the new Mario Kart in my own hands all the more torturous. But based on his early preview, it really could be the evolution of the series we’ve been wanting. The comparisons to Burnout Paradise – a real nostalgic favourite of mine – have me particularly intrigued, and the new Knockout Tour mode sounds pretty neat. Fortunately, the rest of us only have a couple more days to wait until we can experience Mario Kart World for ourselves (assuming you have a Switch 2 pre-order locked in), but it already looks like the Switch 2 has its first system seller on day one.

And don’t forget the Pro controller While I’m on the subject of getting all your extra bit sorted ahead of the Switch 2 launch, the Switch 2 Pro controller looks like an essential accessory for anybody planning to play a lot of Switch 2 in TV mode. The Joy-Con grip will do in a pinch, but you just can’t beat the feel of a proper Pro controller. The Switch 2 model looks to make some smart upgrades over its predecessor, and is now available to pre-order across retailers. Granted, it’s a little bit pricey at $84, but if you know the Switch 2 will be one of your main gaming systems for years to come, it’s still a worthwhile investment. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84 at Walmart The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is practically guaranteed to be the most in-demand Switch 2 accessory, and it packs a suitable upgrade over its predecessor adding a headphone jack, the new “C” button, and customizable back buttons.

Walmart offers a second chance for canceled pre-orders WALMART IS REINSTATING CANCELED SWITCH 2 PRE-ORDERS✅Check your cart on your Walmart account if your order was canceled. You will see a new Switch 2 marked as “single use” you may repurchase it to have your order back! If you do not see it keep checking tonight and tomorrow! pic.twitter.com/CWQiElhZagJune 2, 2025 There’s some good news if you pre-ordered a Switch 2 at Walmart and were unlucky enough to see it canceled. Walmart is offering shoppers with a canceled pre-order a second chance to claim back their console and get hold of a Switch 2 this week. As reported by Jake Randall (and several other stock tracking accounts), Walmart is contacting customers with a canceled pre-order to give them the chance to “reorder,” so if you fall into that group, check your Walmart account as soon as possible. However, make sure you do this fast as Walmart is only giving customers 24 hours to “reorder” the console, after which time you’ll have to join the queues of people hoping to secure one during the various launch day restocks upcoming on Thursday, June 5.

These Very bundles are still in stock today (UK) Welcome back to our Switch 2 live blog, and there’s good news for those waking up in the U.K., as Very’s restocked bundles are sticking around this morning. The retailer dropped new Switch 2 stock yesterday, and while some of the initial bundles have sold out, there’s still two available right now. These packages are a little pricey with one costing £494 and the other £530, but both come with the Switch 2 console and some useful extras. I’d personally opt for the former package as you’re getting a Nintendo Switch 2 and two must-play games, Mario Kart World and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, for £494. That’s a pretty great package. Just don’t delay long, these bundles won’t last long. Shop all Nintendo consoles/accessories @ Very

There’s no standalone console available right now, but you can get your Switch 2 with Street Fighter 6, Tears of the Kingdom, or just with a microSD Express card. Restock alert: Switch 2 at Very (UK) (Image credit: Tom’s Guide) The UK is seeing a pretty nice flow of Switch 2 pre-order stock this morning. Currently, Very has the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle with a SanDisk microSD Express (256GB) card for £479. The only caveat is that Very lists June 13th as the delivery date, which is waaay after the official launch date. (Note: Your delivery date may vary based on your address). Walmart Switch 2 pre-orders: Everything you need to know (Image credit: Shutterstock) Switch 2 launch day is this Thursday, June 5. When can you buy it: Walmart customers can shop the new Nintendo Switch 2 console and accessories in-stores and online starting June 5. In-store info: Customers in Pacific and Mountain-time regions can shop the new console at Walmart Supercenters starting on Wednesday, June 4 at 9 pm PDT or 10 pm MDT, respectively, while supplies last. If you already pre-ordered: Console pre-orders that have already been placed are eligible for free delivery by 9 am local time on June 5. Switch 2: for $449 @ Walmart

Switch 2 stock sold out at Amazon (UK) Well, it was fun while it lasted. Looks like that standalone Switch 2 console at Amazon UK has finally sold out. I checked to see if the Mario Kart World bundle maybe restocked, but that too is sold out. Retailers — especially Amazon — have a habit of replenishing stock a few minutes after selling out, so I’ll keep a close eye on Amazon this morning/afternoon. Switch 2: check stock @ Amazon UK

Switch 2 Mario Kart World: check stock @ Amazon UK

I can’t believe Switch 2 is sticking around at Amazon (UK) I’m pretty shocked, because the Nintendo Switch 2 is still in stock at Amazon UK for £395. I really can’t believe this restock has stuck around this long. While several UK restocks have been available for multiple days already, those offered the console packaged up with extras, often taking the price north of £500. Whereas this is just the regular Nintendo Switch 2 with no extras at all. It’s the base console at its retail price of £395. Surely, this won’t last until launch day, so if you want to get yourself a Switch 2 this week, and you live in the UK, this is pretty much as good as it’s going to get right now. Nintendo Switch 2: £395 @ Amazon

Don’t forget your Switch 2 Pro controller (Image credit: Tom’s Guide) Now that launch week is here, your Switch 2 pre-order (if you have one) will be entering the shipping phase very soon, so it’s really your last chance to lock in some extras, if you want to have them ready for launch day. There’s plenty of Switch 2 accessories out there already, but the real show-stealer looks set to be the Switch 2 Pro controller. It’s Switch 1 equivalent remains one of the best controllers on the market, and this V2 upgrade looks every bit as good, if not better.

Additional retailers: Best Buy | GameStop

No Switch 2 restocks to kick off launch week yet (Image credit: Tom’s Guide) If you were hoping that Nintendo and/or it’s retail partners would celebrate the start of Switch 2 launch week with a pre-order restock, unfortunately, the situation is unchanged at present. For now, Switch 2 remains sold out across U.S. retailers. Granted, this isn’t a huge surprise as it’s already been confirmed that several retailers including Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart will have additional units on launch day, so any built-up allocation is likely be saved for Thursday, June 5 right now. Nevertheless, I’m still watching out across retailers in case there’s a surprise restock over the next few hours. You never do know with restocks, anything can happen.

PSA: Don’t peel off Switch 2’s screen film (Image credit: Tom’s Guide) If you’ve got a Switch 2 pre-order and are expected to get your hands on the console in the next few days, here’s a key piece of advice: Do not peel off the protective film. As reported by IGN, it’s been confirmed that the Switch 2’s screen ships with a “film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage.” Basically, this is an extra layer of protection just in case your Switch 2 display were to shatter. So, if you’re lucky enough to get hold of a Switch 2 this week, be careful during the unboxing process. You definitely won’t want to remove this extra layer on the display.

Switch 2 still IN STOCK at Amazon (UK) As mentioned, getting hold of a Switch 2 in the U.K. has been a relative breeze compared to the U.S., and that’s been proven once again this week as the Nintendo Switch 2 is available at Amazon U.K. right now. The mega retailer restocked over the weekend, and the console is still available as we enter the new week. This is the standalone unit as well, so you’re getting a Switch 2 for £395. Yes, the Mario Kart World bundle is technically the better deal, but this is a great opportunity to secure a console ahead of the release day. Go secure yours right now… Nintendo Switch 2: £395 @ Amazon

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches tomorrow, June 5. If you secured a preorder for the Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle or standalone console at a major retailer, you probably already know when you’ll be able to start playing. But if you weren’t able to secure a preorder, there’s still a chance you’ll be able to buy the Switch 2 over the next couple of days. Your first opportunity will be tonight at 9 PM PT at Walmart.

Quick Look: Nintendo Switch 2 Store Pages

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch at Walmart

Launch event in stores

Walmart stores located in Mountain and Pacific timezones will have the Switch 2 at 9 PM PT on June 4. Shoppers in Central and Eastern timezones will likely have to wait until the morning of June 5, as most Walmart locations close at 11 PM ET. We’d recommend contacting your local store for launch-day plans. Walmart no longer has 24-hour locations, but locations open as early as 6 AM, and we’d imagine lines will begin to form long before then.

Walmart sold out of most first-party accessories weeks ago, which is somewhat bizarre because Target, Best Buy, and GameStop still have most accessories in stock. We suspect Walmart is holding back some accessory stock for launch.

Online restock at 9 PM PT / 12 AM ET

Walmart will have the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle available online at 9 PM PT / 12 AM ET.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch at Best Buy

Midnight launch on June 5 at 12:01 AM ET:

Best Buy is hosting a midnight launch at 12:01 AM ET on June 5. You can use the dropdown menu on the store page to see if your local Best Buy store is participating. Some customers who attend the midnight launch will receive a free commemorative Nintendo coin; the coin has the Switch 2 logo on one side and the Best Buy logo on the other side.

Online restock:

It also appears that Best Buy will restock the console in the coming days, though the midnight launch is focused on in-store events. Best Buy’s store pages for both the bundle and standalone console utilize the “Coming Soon” grayed-out button and “High Demand Product” disclaimers. A Best Buy account will be required to purchase the console.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch at Target

Launch event on June 5 from 8 AM to 4 PM:

Target is hosting Switch 2 launch events at stores around the country on June 5 from 8 AM to 4 PM. Along with the chance to buy the Switch 2, Target promises “ultra-fun giveaways.” If you live in the Orlando, Florida area, the Millenia Target store will have the largest launch event at Target, as it will features games, prizes, Nintendo merch, and giveaways. Target’s Bull Terrier mascot Bullseye will also be in attendance, but it’s unclear if it will be a real dog or an employee dressed in a dog suit.

Online restock on June 6:

Target has confirmed it will restock the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle on Friday, June 6, so if you strike out at one of the launch-day events, you’ll have another chance to snag a console the following day.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch at GameStop

Midnight launch starts at 3 PM local time on June 4:

Select GameStop locations will be hosting a midnight launch for the Nintendo Switch 2. The event starts at 3 PM local time on June 4. Orders can be picked up at 9 PM PT (June 4) / 12 AM ET (June 5). Some store locations will be giving away one free can of Red Bull to each customer, which is an odd giveaway. The humorous part here is that GameStop is locking the Red Bull giveaway behind its Pro membership, a move typically reserved for highly anticipated products.

Online restock:

It’s unclear if GameStop will restock the Switch 2 online, but we wouldn’t be surprised if launch restocks are only for Pro members.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch: More Retailers

Several other national retail chains and online stores have confirmed the Switch 2 will be available to purchase on June 5.

Antonline: It’s unclear when the consoles will be available to purchase, but Antonline has a store page for the console and bundle.

Sam’s Club: The Walmart-owned warehouse club will have the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle on June 5. It will only be available to Sam’s Club members. New members can get an annual Sam’s Club membership for $25 (was $50).

Costco: Costco will have the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart Bundle with a 12-month Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership on June 5. It will only be available for Costco members. The retailer will also have the Switch 2 Pro Controller on launch day.

Staples: On occasion, the office supplies retailer also sells video game consoles and games. This is one such occasion. The Switch 2 will be available to purchase at select Staples stores on June 5.

Nintendo Switch 2 on Amazon? That’s a reseller.

Amazon US does not carry first-party Nintendo gaming products.

Amazon US hasn’t sold first-party Nintendo video game products for about a year at this point, which is why no one has preordered the Switch 2 from Amazon US. Note: Amazon still carries Nintendo gaming products, including the Switch 2, in other regions such as the UK.

However, it’s possible, and perhaps even likely, that Nintendo Switch 2 console listings will pop up on Amazon starting June 5. Unless Nintendo and Amazon change course–the details surrounding the absence of Nintendo from Amazon are murky–those store pages will be created by third-party resellers looking to turn a profit. Pay close attention to the “Ships from” and “Sold by” lines below the “Buy Now” button. If you are willing to spend extra on the Switch 2 by purchasing from a reseller, you’ll want to verify the seller is reputable before completing your transaction.

Amazon Has Third-Party Switch 2 Products:

You can still find many Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and games at Amazon. The retailer stocks officially licensed third-party accessories from brands like Hori and third-party games. Amazon remains the largest seller of accessories that are not licensed by Nintendo, including products from popular brands like JSAUX, Spigen, Skull & Co., and Tomtoc.

Every Nintendo Switch 2 Game with Boxed Edition

Nintendo Switch 2 Games

Below, you’ll find a list of all of the Nintendo Switch 2 games with physical editions that are available to purchase now. It’s worth noting that not all physical games are fully physical. Nintendo’s first-party physical releases contain the full game file on the cartridge. With most third-party releases, you’re getting a Game-Key Card, which looks the same but requires you to download part of the game file from the eShop.

There are a few exceptions to the Game-Key Card trend. Most notably, Cyberpunk 2077’s 64GB Switch 2 game card includes the full game and Phantom Liberty expansion. Additionally, all of the upcoming games published by Marvellous–Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion–come with the full experience on the Switch 2 game card. Meanwhile, Split Fiction’s physical edition is simply a code in a box.
