The James Bond game doesn’t have a release date, but is slated to launch sometime in 2026. The game appears to be an origin story, as players will follow a much younger version of Bond, at least compared to the films.
The game appears to be an origin story, as players will follow a much younger version of Bond, at least compared to the films. Hitman developer IO Interactive announced that it was working on the franchise way back in 2020, so it’s been a long wait to see the actual game in action. The announcement also comes at an interesting time for the franchise overall, which is now under the Amazon umbrella.
You’ll also be able to see more of the game very soon. IO is holding a showcase event on June 6th at 9PM ET, which will include an appearance from First Light.

This morning during a PlayStation State of Play, a showcase of upcoming projects releasing on the PlayStation console showed the first look trailer for our next James Bond.
Daniel Craig may have moved on but theirs already a new James Bond on the horizon but instead of a movie, our favourite British Spy (other than Johnny English) is coming to the video game world. 007 First Light will follow the story of a young and reckless James Bond as he goes through the MI6 training program. The origins of James Bond comes from the popular game developer IO Interactive (Hitman) in collaboration with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Eon Productions, and is currently set to release sometime in 2026. The game is telling a new story not yet seen on screen but is taking inspiration from the stories by Ian Fleming, but development team have stated that the opening sequence from Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale as the main point of inspiration. Telling the tale of a Bond earning his license to kill and earn his 00 status.
