A passenger plane travelling from Leeds Bradford Airport had to make an emergency landing shortly after take-off due to a “technical issue” onboard.

The EI3673 Aer Lingus flight departed the West Yorkshire airport at 12:40 BST and was heading to Belfast City Airport when the incident occurred.

No injuries have been reported, with the airline apologising “for any inconvenience caused” to passengers.

A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said the incident had been dealt with “in line with our emergency procedures” and staff were working to make sure passengers were able to continue their journey “as soon as possible”.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Chelson Meadow Waste Reception Centre at about 14:30 BST after the item was discovered.

Plymouth City Council said the Royal Navy ordnance disposal team had removed the unknown object.

A woman who died in a Glasgow flat in February has been named as Hayley Campbell.

The 48-year-old was found dead at a property on Burgh Hall Street in Partick on 24 February with Police Scotland treating her death as unexplained at the time.

The force has now revealed a 47-year-old woman they wanted to interview in relation to Ms Campbell’s death was found dead at a separate address the next day.

The woman was found at a property on Kilbowie Road, Clydebank and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A man has been charged with the murder of his 71-year-old mother in north Belfast.

Mary Green – who was known as Marie – was pronounced dead at a house on the Shore Road in the early of Tuesday morning.

On Thursday, her son Lewis Green appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder.

The 31-year-old, from the Shore Road, has also been charged with non-fatal strangulation, as well as common assault on another person in connection with the investigation.

Police are searching for a driver who reportedly left the scene of a two-vehicle crash on foot.

The collision, involving a white Seat Ibiza and a grey BMW 340i, happened just after 22:30 BST on Saturday near Sunderland.

The Seat overturned in the crash on the A690 northbound, near the junction with the A19 at the Herrington Interchange, injuring the driver.

Northumbria Police said the BMW driver was reported to have left the scene on foot and asked witnesses to get in touch.
