The community is mourning the loss of a beloved local business owner.

David Young, the owner of the store “Stones ‘n Bones,” has passed away.

During nearly three decades of operation in Lynchburg and Forest, staff say David became an icon in the “buy local” retail scene.

He was a paragon of curiosity, especially regarding the natural sciences,” said a Facebook post shared by Stone’s ‘n Bones. “And he certainly never met a stranger!”

From encouraging kids to follow their dreams to guiding newcomers to the best local rockhounding spots, staff members say he always made people feel welcome. “The infamous sofa was a place where he sat and chatted with friends, and customers who were actually just new friends, but didn’t know it yet.”

“He was grateful for the amazing customers who frequented the store,” said their post. “And often said you all were ‘the best customers ever!’”
