Report: Nick Chubb, Texans have mutual interest
Nick Chubb remains a free agent after the Browns drafted two running backs. The Texans have Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale at the top of their depth chart. Chubb has played only 10 games the past two seasons.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Chubb and the Texans have mutual interest.
The Texans have Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale at the top of their depth chart at the position. Both Mixon and Pierce missed time with injuries last season.
Chubb, 29, has played only 10 games the past two seasons. A horrific knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season kept him out until Week 7 of the 2024 season. Chubb played eight games last season before breaking his foot.
The Browns made Chubb a second-round pick in 2018 and he had 996 rushing yards as a rookie followed by four consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry and 84.5 yards per game in his first five seasons and 3.9 yards per carry and 50.2 yards per game the past two seasons.
Nick Chubb has mutual interest with playoff team
Former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is a free agent. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that there is mutual interest between Chubb and the Houston Texans. With the Texans, he would likely serve as a complementary piece alongside veteran Joe Mixon. Chubb was able to return to the field last season after overcoming a serious knee injury.
In an appearance on “SportsCenter” Sunday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that there is mutual interest between Chubb and the Houston Texans, and the two sides may be able to conclude a deal soon.
“I was told that he’s hoping to sign here soon, and maybe he gets something done before minicamp,” Fowler said. “I’m told Houston could be one to watch here.”

👀 I’m told Houston could be one to watch here. They’ve been looking at that running back market, maybe adding somebody with [#Texans RB] Joe Mixon.” pic.twitter.com/sytQKCiuhN — sidelinesarah (@sidelinesarah) June 8, 2025
Chubb is a free agent, and while the Browns have not completely ruled out bringing him back, it does seem very unlikely. With the Texans, he would likely serve as a complementary piece alongside veteran Joe Mixon.
Chubb was able to return to the field last season after overcoming a serious knee injury. He rushed 102 times for 332 yards and 3 touchdowns before suffering a broken foot.
Durability is a major concern for Chubb at this point. A part-time role is probably best for both him and whatever team he lands with, as he would be able to manage his workload and hopefully maximize his effectiveness.
