Trump announced Wednesday the ban would affect citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Heightened travel restrictions will also be enforced on passengers from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

The Houston Airport System does not anticipate any changes to operations as a result of the travel ban, which goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Monday, a system spokesperson said. There are no nonstop flights between Houston and the 12 countries listed under the new travel ban, they added.
In a video posted to social media Thursday, Trump said the recent attack in Boulder, Colo., underscores the dangers of international travellers who enter the country without proper vetting and those who overstay their temporary visas. The man accused of injuring at least 15 people in the attack is from Egypt, which is not among the 12 countries affected by the travel ban.
A similar travel ban was introduced by Trump during his first term in 2017. Little notice was given, leading to confusion and protests at airports across the country. At the time, the ban was met with efforts to overrule it, but the Supreme Court eventually ruled Trump was within his powers to introduce the ban.
