Lawrence O’Donnell Urges Mike Lee’s Entire Staff To Resign Over Bizarre Shooting Posts: ‘We All Know What Moral Decency Demands’
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell sent a message to the staff of Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) following his controversial posts. Lee made light of the targeted shootings of Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses. O’Donnell said Lee’s staff will be looked at with “disgrace” by all of their colleagues going forward. The MSNBC host argued Lee’s posts prove he is “not a man of great morality or great decency.” He added: “If you do have decency, you know you only have one choice. Stick with Mike Lee, stick with him all the way”
Lee received backlash on Sunday after making two posts about the shootings over the weekend in Minnesota. State Rep. Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed by a man posing as a police officer. The shooting suspect also shot State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, but both are now in stable condition. Hortman and Hoffman are both Democrats. Suspect Vance Boelter was taken into police custody after a massive manhunt.
In one post to X, Lee declared, “This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way.” He included an image of Boelter in tactical gear.
In another post, he took aim at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D).
“Nightmare on Waltz Street,” the senator wrote, likely referring to Boelter being appointed to an advisory board under Walz’s administration in 2019.
“Senator Mike Lee’s staff now live in the disgrace he has visited upon them, and they all have a moral choice in front of them now,” O’Donnell said on The Last Word on Monday.
The MSNBC host argued Lee’s posts prove he is “not a man of great morality or great decency.” He added that Lee’s staff will be looked at with “disgrace” by all of their colleagues going forward.
O’Donnell said:
If you remain on Mike Lee’s staff in the Senate and you find yourself down in the Dirksen cafeteria or walking the halls of the Russell [Senate Office] Building, the Dirksen [Senate Office] Building, or the Hart Senate Office Building or the Capitol, you should know that every other Senate staff member sees you as disgraced, sees you as wearing Mike Lee’s disgrace as your own, as long as you decide to continue to serve Mike Lee in the United States Senate. You have your own choice to make. If you agree with Mike Lee’s choice to make jokes about assassination of a Democratic officeholder in Minnesota, if you agree with that, then stay with Mike Lee, stick with Mike Lee, stick with him all the way. But if you do have decency, you know you only have one choice.
