International role models, hometown heroes among KC Sports Awards honorees
The Kansas City Sports Commission and foundation announced the honorees on Tuesday. The Awards ceremony is expected to be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. The Kansas City Sports Commission and foundation announced on Tuesday, June 17, that the honorees for the 2025 Kansas City Sports Awards have been chosen.
“Over this past year, Kansas City has seen extraordinary sporting achievements across the professional, collegiate and amateur levels,” says Kathy Nelson, President and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission. “This year’s honorees showcase the continuous growth of Kansas City sports and the impact they have in our community.”
2025 honorees include:
Temwa Chawinga, of the Kansas City Current – Children’s Mercy Athlete of the Year
Pittsburg State Men’s and Women’s Track and Field – Polsinelli Teams of the Year
J.J. Picollo, of the Kansas City Royals – McCownGordon Construction Executive of the Year
Matt Quatrar, of the Kansas City Royals – Burns & McDonnell Coach of the Year
Sarah Nauser and Salvador Perez, of the Kansas City Royals – Spire Community Champion
Ray Bechard, of the University of Kansas – T-Mobile Legacy Award
