The IFRC last month announced the ten final winners in the annual Limitless Youth Innovation Academy – a global initiative to engaged young people with humanitarian issues that was this year focused on climate and environment.

Over 7,000 young people and peer mentors from 142 National Societies participated, creating more than 1,500 projects that impacted nearly 2 million people.

In a circular email, IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain, said: “We are deeply moved by the passion, creativity, and commitment demonstrated by these young change-makers.

He continued: “Now more than ever, we must prioritize creating safe, empowering, and inclusive spaces for youth, enabling their meaningful participation and the application of their unique talents to address critical climate and environmental challenges.”

The ten final award-winners – from the National Societies of Ecuador, China, Nigeria (twice), Zambia, Iran, Ukraine (pictured), Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Indonesia – will now receive additional funding to scale up their projects.

‘Ingenuity’

Five runners-up – from the Philippines, Ecuador, Grenada, Uganda, and Kenya – were also highly commended for projects that Mr Chapagain said “demonstrated exceptional quality and significant potential for positive impact in their communities”.

He added: “I am very happy to share these results and proud to have such talented and innovative young individuals addressing humanitarian challenges, strengthening local actions, and making meaningful contributions to their communities.

“We also extend our congratulations to the National Societies who are supporting these young people and creating spaces where their ingenuity can thrive. Together we are limitless”
