Sky Sports: Everton ‘in Talks’ to sign Premier League Defender in Free Transfer | OneFootball

Everton are in talks to sign Fulham right back Kenny Tete on a free transfer. The 28-year-old will become a free agent at the end of June. Tete is yet to commit to a new deal at Craven Cottage. The Dutch international has experience from the Eredivisie, Ligue 1 and the Premier League. He was a crucial part of Marco Silva’s plans last season, and Fulham’s desire to keep him shows just how highly he’s valued. David Moyes’ new-look Everton side are desperate for reinforcements in defence, especially in the right-back position. The signing of Tete could be a perfect bridge between the old guard and the new, offering Premier League-ready quality at no cost beyond wages and signing bonuses. The deal reminds me of when we snapped up Seamus Coleman for a bargain, potentially massive reward.

Everton Target Fulham’s Kenny Tete on Free Transfer

Everton have opened discussions to sign Dutch full-back Kenny Tete on a free transfer, according to Sky Sports News‘ Alan Myers. The 28-year-old, who will become a free agent at the end of June, has yet to commit to a new deal at Fulham, despite the West London club’s attempt to keep him.

Myers reports, “Everton are in discussions to sign Fulham right back Kenny Tete — however there is still work to do before a deal is complete.” The Toffees appear to be acting swiftly in the market, taking advantage of expiring contracts as a means to strengthen their squad with minimal financial outlay, a strategy increasingly vital in the era of profit and sustainability regulations.

Experience and Versatility on Offer

Tete’s CV offers exactly what David Moyes may be seeking. Having plied his trade with Ajax and Lyon before moving to Fulham in 2020, the Dutch international brings with him experience from the Eredivisie, Ligue 1 and Premier League. A right-back by trade, he has also operated further forward or tucked into central areas when needed.

Despite injury spells, Tete’s time at Fulham has been marked by consistency and maturity. He was a crucial part of Marco Silva’s plans last season, and Fulham’s desire to keep him shows just how highly he’s valued. As Sky Sports revealed, “Fulham confirmed earlier this month that they had offered Tete a new contract in an attempt to keep the Dutchman at Craven Cottage.”

Everton’s Strategic Focus on Free Agents

Given Everton’s current financial constraints, targeting experienced free agents such as Tete makes sense. The club’s survival in the Premier League last season was gritty but underscored a desperate need for reinforcements, especially in defence.

With Seamus Coleman entering the twilight of his career and Nathan Patterson still developing, the right-back slot remains an area that needs immediate attention. Tete could be a perfect bridge between the old guard and the new, offering Premier League-ready quality at no cost beyond wages and signing bonuses.

What It Means for Moyes’ New Look Everton

Under David Moyes there’s likely to be a renewed focus on defensive structure and tactical discipline — hallmarks of his previous tenure. Tete would slot into that vision with ease. The Dutchman is not only reliable in one-on-one situations but also offers attacking thrust, delivering key passes and dangerous balls into the box.

This potential deal also signals Moyes’ intent to blend experience with youth. Tete could provide the perfect mentorship for Patterson, while immediately competing for a starting role.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a fan’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of smart business Everton need. Tete on a free? That’s a no-brainer. He’s proven, he’s got European pedigree, and he’s still only 28. As an Evertonian, it’s refreshing to see us linked with a player who can come in and improve the team immediately, not just warm the bench.

Moyes knows how to build solid defensive units and you can just imagine Tete thriving under his system. With Coleman playing a more limited role next season, we need someone who can not only defend but also support the attack. Tete ticks those boxes. He’s strong in the tackle, has pace to burn, and won’t be fazed by the intensity of Goodison Park.

This deal reminds me of when we snapped up Seamus Coleman for a bargain — low risk, potentially massive reward. If we can get it over the line quickly, it might set the tone for a very savvy summer window. Moyes working with players like Tete shows ambition without recklessness, something we haven’t always managed in the past.

Let’s get it done, Blues.

Crystal Palace are reportedly in talks with Sporting CP over central defender Ousmane Diomande amid suggestions that Liverpool are interested in Marc Guehi. The 24-year-old stopper is entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, and reports claim that the England international has attracted the attention of other Premier League clubs.

BBC Sport have reported that Oliver Glasner’s side are looking to strengthen their backline this summer amid the growing uncertainty over Guehi’s future. Diomande is said to be a serious target for Palace but to caveat that, it remains to be seen whether they can reach an agreement for the 21-year-old with the defender attracting suitors from across Europe.

It follows claims by The Times that Liverpool are interested in the FA Cup-winning captain after it reportedly emerged that Bayer Leverkusen were ready to step up their efforts to sign Jarell Quansah, with the Liverpool defender contemplating his future after having his game time limited in Arne Slot’s side.

Newcastle United saw four bids rejected for Guehi last season, with their last offer reportedly worth in the region of £65million.

However Palace face a different, yet difficult prospect regarding their skipper as he will be out of contract next summer.

The South London club face the threat of losing him on a free transfer at the end of the forthcoming campaign, but are now presented with the final opportunities to receive some windfall in the transfer window or in January.

BBC Sport claims that Diomande is valued in the region of £40million, which would be a transfer record for the Selhurst Park club.

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of selling Quansah for £34million with various reporters claiming that the England under-21 international has verbally agreed a move to Leverkusen.

Guehi arrived from Chelsea in 2021, signing a five-year deal with reports at the time suggesting that the west Londoners included sell-on incentives.

He made 33 Premier League appearances last season, scoring three goals and captained Palace to a historic FA Cup triumph after edging past Manchester City at Wembley.

“I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club,” he said around the showpiece encounter.

‌”I come in every day and I try to be the same.

“I try to work hard.

“And you know, this football club has given me a lot.

“I’m still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club.
