“We’re trying to give ourselves every chance to win and be in this, and right now we feel like Chase gives us the best chance, and it’s time to go,” Reds’ general manager Brad Meador told the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Burns played for Tennessee from 2022-23 before transferring to Wake Forest in 2024. He was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by Cincinnati.

Burns will become the 11th former Vol from the Tony Vitello era to play in Major League Baseball.

Vitello’s first season as Tennessee’s head coach was in 2018. Burns will join the following 10 other former Vols under the eighth-year head coach who reached MLB: Garrett Crochet, Chase Silseth, Ben Joyce, Andre Lipcius, Trey Lipscomb, Jordan Beck, Seth Halvorsen, Chase Dollander, Blade Tidwell and Christian Moore.
