New Details About Canceled Batman Game Appear Online

New concept art for the long-canceled Batman game – dubbed Project Sabbath – has surfaced online. Project Sabbath was reportedly in development at WB Games Montreal and intended to be a follow-up to 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight. The scrapped Batman game would have starred Damian Wayne as Gotham’s new Dark Knight, set in a future timeline years after Bruce Wayne’s retirement. It was ultimately shelved in favor of Gotham Knights, which launched in 2022 to lukewarm reception. Still, it’s unfortunate to see another seemingly-promising DC game cut down before its time.

Some new concept art for the long-canceled Batman game – dubbed Project Sabbath – has surfaced online. While there have been numerous concept art leaks surrounding this shelved Batman game in the past, the latest batch shows off the best glimpse so far at some key characters, including an older Bruce Wayne.

Although never officially announced, Project Sabbath has been a hot topic of discussion among Batman fans since details about it began percolating about six years ago. However, Project Sabbath was ultimately shelved in favor of Gotham Knights, which launched in 2022 to lukewarm reception.

All these years later, a new batch of concept art and in-game character models for the canceled Damian Wayne Batman game has made its way online. Sourced from former WB Montreal character artist Rodrigue Pralier and shared by MP1ST, the images depict a visibly older Bruce Wayne who’s equipped with a cane – reminiscent of Batman Beyond’s Terry McGinnis-era Bruce. His son, Damian Wayne, can also be seen suited up in what seems to be a slimmer and more agile Batsuit, along with blue eyes, a short haircut, and some scarring on his face.

Fresh Concept Art Provides New Look at Canceled Batman Game’s Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Killer Croc, and More

There are some character model options for Killer Croc as well, where most of them look more human than his monstrous Batman: Arkham counterpart, but one bears a striking resemblance to a Predator and another looks somewhat inspired by Baraka from the Mortal Kombat series. Lastly, the Huntress is featured in concept art that shows off her black-and-purple cowl, as well as some character models displaying her classic black-white-purple suit.

Project Sabbath was purportedly intended to be the fifth entry in the Batman Arkhamverse, but some of these designs suggest it may have broken from that continuity. Still, it’s unfortunate to see another seemingly-promising DC game cut down before its time, especially following the cancelation of Monolith’s Wonder Woman game earlier this year. Thankfully, WB has at least reiterated its commitment to core franchises like Batman and Harry Potter since then, and rumors from credible sources even point to Rocksteady possibly working on a new Batman Beyond game in the wake of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s enormous failure.
