New Delhi: As tensions continue to mount in the Middle East after the US’ strikes against Iran, the US state department issued a “worldwide caution” alert for Americans.

“The Department of State advises US citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution. Please read carefully our Travel Advisory, country information, and any recent security alerts when planning travel,” according to the statement issued by the Trump-led department.

The security alert warned about potential travel disruptions and demonstrations. It stated: “The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against US citizens and interests abroad.”

Emergency meeting of UNSC

Meanwhile, on Sunday night, the United Nations Security Council conducted an emergency meeting at the behest of the Iranian government.

During the meeting, Russia, China, and Pakistan condemned the US attack on Iran, while urging the 15-member council to adopt a resolution demanding an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.

Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani alleged that Israel and the US had killed diplomacy, and emphasised that all US allegations have no basis and the nuclear non-proliferation treaty “has been manipulated into a political weapon”.

Iran death toll around 900

Israeli airstrikes on Iran have claimed around 950 lives and left 3,450 others injured, according to Human Rights Activists.

As many as 380 civilians and 253 security force personnel were killed in the attacks. According to the latest figure from the Iranian health ministry, around 430 people have died in Israeli attacks since June 13.

Iran set to close Strait of Hormuz

Iran is set to block the Strait of Hormuz following the attack on its nuclear facilities. According to state media, the Iranian parliament has given its nod for the closure of the strait. The approval from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council is being awaited. Once it gives a go-ahead, the strait will be closed.

The US military struck three sites in Iran early Sunday, inserting itself into Israel’s effort to destroy Iran’s nuclear programme in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe. President Donald Trump said that US has ‘completely and fully obliterated’ Iran’s nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, Iran has warned that any country aiding the US militarily or providing bases for strikes will be treated as a legitimate target. Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that nations allowing US forces to operate from their soil against Iran “will be a legitimate target for our armed forces.”

Lebanon: On June 22, 2025, the U.S. Department of State ordered the departure of family members and non-emergency U.S. government personnel from Lebanon due to the volatile and unpredictable security situation in the region. Saudi Arabia: Given reports of regional hostilities, the US Mission to Saudi Arabia has advised its personnel to exercise increased caution and limit non-essential travel to any military installations in the region. International concern focused on fears that the unprecedented US attacks would deepen conflict in the volatile region after Israel launched a bombing campaign against Iran earlier this month. An advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Akbar Velayati, said bases used by US forces could be attacked in retaliation.

“Any country in the region or elsewhere that is used by American forces to strike Iran will be considered a legitimate target for our armed forces,” he said in a message carried by the official IRNA news agency. “America has attacked the heart of the Islamic world and must await irreparable consequences.”

US President Donald Trump urged Iran to end the conflict after he launched surprise strikes on a key underground uranium enrichment site at Fordo, along with nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz. “We had a spectacular military success yesterday, taking the ‘bomb’ right out of their hands (and they would use it if they could!)” he said on social media.

And while the US president did not directly advocate regime change in the Islamic Republic, he openly played with the idea — even after his aides stressed that it was not a goal of American intervention. “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. “But if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???
