AI is everywhere and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be on your web browser – that’s what Perplexity assumes. Hence, it spared no time in coming up with a dedicated AI-powered web browser. Coming up as a direct competitor to the Opera Neon browser, this browser, called Perplexity Comet, has started coming out in beta versions for Windows users and if everything goes well, it will even come out on the Android platform in the future.

The Comet browser is designed to go beyond traditional browsing by embedding advanced AI tools directly within its interface. Perplexity says that this integration allows users to perform a variety of smart tasks, transforming how they interact with online content. Users can leverage AI to ask questions directly within the browser, receiving concise and accurate answers without needing to navigate multiple websites.

The browser is also equipped with AI-enabled features to help users find discounts and optimise their shopping experience, potentially identifying better deals or comparing prices automatically. Perplexity also says that the Comet browser aims to streamline email workflows, although specific functionalities have not been detailed yet.

The browser also helps shoppers with a visual try-on feature. This feature allows users to upload a photo and virtually try on selected clothing items, thus offering a glimpse into the future of online retail.

What remains to be seen is how Perplexity AI manages to integrate is AI search engine with the browser for a cohesive user experience. While Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser relies on the GPT-4-powered CoPilot AI assistant to draw more users, it remains to be seen how Google changes its Chrome browser to integrate the Gemini chatbot in the coming days.

How to download the Perplexity Comet AI web browser?

At the moment, Perplexity is making the Comet web browser available to Windows users as part of a limited beta test. Interested users need to register to get an invite to download the browser. An Android version is expected to come out later, although no timeline has been published for the same.
