‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Delays 2.3 Patch, Reveals How Big It Is

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.3 has been pushed back to some new unspecified date. Update is expected to have a scope similar to 2.2, which went live on December 10, 2024. The game will move beyond solely Night City, and indications are it may take place in a quarantined, lawless version of Chicago that will be a contrast to the glamour of Night City. If quests are added, they’re somewhat secret, and the community will have to dig them up. I was looking forward to it, but I suppose there’s now Death Stranding 2 to play.

Players should not really be expecting any more Cyberpunk 2077 patches at this point, so we cannot be too sad when they’re delayed. A newly announced one, Update 2.3, was set to come out this Thursday on June 26, but now that’s been pushed to some new unspecified date.

While CDPR has confirmed its existence, we have not gotten any more details past that about what it will add to Cyberpunk 2077. But this new post at least says how big it’s going to be, as it’s “aiming for a scope similar to Update 2.2.”

As a refresher regarding the size of Update 2.2, we can flash back to when that went live on December 10, 2024, on the three-year anniversary of the release of the base game. Now, we’re six months past that, and it appears a (successful, by all accounts) Nintendo Switch launch will be in conjunction with this new patch. So maybe don’t blaze through the game until we know what’s being added here.

To be clear, these are not huge updates in terms of missions or questlines. Rather, they’re mostly quality-of-life updates, fun new additions and other things of that nature. Flashing back to 2.2, we had:

MORE FOR YOU

100 new character customization options

Lots of new enhancements to photo mode including the ability to spawn NPCs.

The ability to change car paint with a reactive car color system

Johnny now appearing in your car

A Balatro-based quest

Patch 2.1 was more robust, and 2.3 may not be this big. It had:

A full, working Metro system in the game

New car-based combat missions and new cars added to earn

New romantic hangouts with V at home.

The ability to listen to the radio anywhere.

If quests are added, they’re somewhat secret, and the community will have to dig them up. But yes, 2.2 was largely cosmetic, based on character customization, photo mode and car paint. And some fairly random things, like Johnny as a passenger.

I do find myself wondering if these updates may now start teasing the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel in subtle ways, no matter how many years away it still might be. The game will move beyond solely Night City, and indications are it may take place in a quarantined, lawless version of Chicago that will be a contrast to the glamour of Night City.

We don’t know when we’ll get a preview of 2.3 or when it will arrive. I was looking forward to it, but I suppose there’s now Death Stranding 2 to play.
