LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Doctors Hospital of Laredo will host a free health fair Thursday morning, June 26, as part of Men’s Health Month, aiming to help men catch early signs of health issues through routine screenings and awareness.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the hospital’s main lobby on 10700 McPherson Road. Men of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Dr. Triptesh Chaudhury, a radiation oncologist at the hospital, said screenings will include blood sugar and cholesterol tests, which require fasting — no food or drinks after dinner the night before.

“We’re also doing PSA tests to check for possible prostate issues. It doesn’t mean cancer, but it tells you if something might be wrong,” Chaudhury said.

The PSA test is recommended for men between 55 and 69 years old.

Doctors from several specialties — including oncology, neurology, and urology — will also be present starting at 10 a.m. to answer health questions and share safety tips on topics like fire hazards, heat risks, and even identity theft.

Chaudhury said men often delay doctor visits, especially for things like prostate exams, but early detection saves lives.

“If prostate cancer is caught early, the cure rate is around 95 percent,” he said. But, he added, that many men wait too long.

The health fair will also provide information about colon cancer screening, which doctors now recommend beginning at age 45 for both men and women.

Attendees do not need to bring anything except fast if they want blood sugar or cholesterol tests.

“Just come on in,” Chaudhury said. “We’ll take care of everything else.”
