Stony Brook Children’s Annual Kids Health and Safety Expo at Long Island Ducks
Stony Brook High School held its annual summer camp on June 18. The camp is dedicated to helping children and their families in need. There were also hands-on activities for the kids to enjoy. There was also a chance to win a free Stony Brook t-shirt. For more information on the camp, visit stonybrook.org.
The family-friendly evening included 10 staffed tables with interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, including Child Life (finger casts), Infectious Diseases (tick information) and Dentistry (oral health). Injury prevention experts shared important water safety tips, and the nursing team provided sun safety education, along with several other engaging stations for families to explore.
The first 1,000 kids received a collectible Ducks and Stony Brook Children’s branded lunch box — and judging by the happy faces, the nostalgic and practical giveaway was a home run!
Stony Brook is proud to support Island Harvest Food Bank, a leading hunger-relief organization with a mission to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. Game attendees helped ‘Stuff a Seawolf Bus’ parked on the plaza by donating non-perishable items, with a chance to win Stony Brook swag.
In addition, it was an opportunity for Stony Brook Children’s (over 500 tickets were given out) to show their pride and enjoy a beautiful night with their families and friends. Dr. James Barsi, from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, opened the game with the ceremonial first pitch, and the L.I. Ducks ended the night with a home team win.
