Pete Hegseth says Iran’s nuke program is ‘buried under a mountain of rubble’ as Trump defends attack amid leaks: Live updates
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed the US military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities ‘buried them under a mountain of rubble,’ as the White House defends a leaked report claiming Donald Trump’s attack did little damage. A leaked report from the Defense Intelligence Agency claims Saturday’s airstrike on three Iranian nuclear sites only set the country’s program back by months.
‘Our massive bombs hit exactly the right spot at each target and worked perfectly. The impact of those bombs is buried under a mountain of rubble in Iran,’ Hegseth said.
‘So anyone who says the bombs were not devastating is just trying to undermine the President and the successful mission.’
A leaked report from the Defense Intelligence Agency claims Saturday’s airstrike on three Iranian nuclear sites only set the country’s program back by months instead of completely destroying it.
Sources said the US attack did not destroy Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and that the enriched uranium was moved out of the sites before the strikes.
Trump claimed the strikes ‘completely and totally obliterated,’ a statement echoed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who dismissed the assessment as a ‘clear attempt to demean President Trump.’
‘Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration,’ Leavitt said.
Trump faced calls for his impeachment on a sole charge of abuse of power over his launch of military strikes on Iran without first seeking authorization from Congress – but the House today overwhelmingly voted to block the resolution.
The president brokered a fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel that appeared to hold Tuesday after initially faltering, causing Trump to launch a foul-mouthed tirade that saw him drop an F-bomb on live TV.

Donald Trump says a ‘total ceasefire’ has been agreed between Israel and Iran
US President Donald Trump announces ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Announcement comes after Iran launched an attack on American forces stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, in what it said was retaliation for US strikes on three of its nuclear sites. Qatar said it ‘successfully intercepted’ the missiles targeting the US base. Meanwhile, Israel once again struck Iran’s heavily fortified Fordo nuclear facility, according to Iranian state media. The reported strike came just days after the United States launched bunker-buster attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran, prompting Tehran to vow a ‘decisive response’
The announcement comes after Iran launched an attack on American forces stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, in what it said was retaliation for US strikes on three of its nuclear sites over the weekend.
The attack came shortly after Qatar closed its airspace as a precaution amid threats from Iran – Qatar said it ‘successfully intercepted’ the missiles targeting the US base.
Meanwhile, Israel once again struck Iran’s heavily fortified Fordo nuclear facility, according to Iranian state media .
The reported strike came just days after the United States launched bunker-buster attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran, prompting Tehran to vow a “decisive response” and accuse Washington of “unprovoked aggression”.
At around 10pm Irish time, the Israeli military asked that residents in a certain area in central Tehran evacuate. “Your presence in this area puts your life at risk,” its X account wrote in Persian. “We ask that you immediately leave the designated area on the map and do not approach it for the next few hours.”
Israeli military said that Iran’s attack on the military base has proved that the country is a threat to “the entire world”.
Irish citizens in Doha were advised to “exercise caution, follow local advice, monitor media [and] shelter in place.”
Elsewhere, President Donald Trump further inflamed speculation last night by hinting at possible regime change in Tehran, despite Pentagon claims that this is not the US objective. Tonight, he dismissed the Iranian attack as a “very weak response”. There were no fatalities, either Qatari or American, both countries’ ministries confirmed.
“Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region,” Trump mused in a post on Truth Social, “and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
He then announced that a total ceasefire had been agreed between the two countries, which will come into place once the two have concluded their current attacks on each other.

Sleepy Biden forced grieving military families to wait hours — while he napped on Air Force One
Biden’s reported nap took place during a “dignified transfer” ceremony when the president and First Lady Jill Biden were to welcome the caskets of the fallen soldiers at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The families said the octogenarian leader’s decision to snooze on the tarmac instead of greet them was an insult to the memories of their loves ones. A military officer told her Biden was snoozing on the plane, Roice McCollum said. A White House rep for the White House similarly insisted Nap-gate was false. “We sat in that office for what seemed like an eternity waiting on the doddering old fool,” said Darin Hoover, the father of Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover.
President Biden forced the grieving relatives of Marines killed in Afghanistan to wait for hours while he napped on Air Force One, multiple family members said.
On Aug. 26, Taliban terrorists killed 13 Americans soldiers and more than 170 Afghans at Kabul International Airport’s Abbey Gate in Afghanistan.
The attack came during the final days of the chaotic American withdrawal from the country.

The families said the octogenarian leader’s decision to snooze on the tarmac instead of greet them was an insult to the memories of their loves ones.
Biden “made us wait an extra three hours to receive the bodies of our dead family members because he couldn’t pull it together,” Roice McCollum told the DailyMail.
McCollum’s brother, Rylee McCollum, was killed in the airport massacre.
A military officer told her Biden was snoozing on the plane, Roice said.
That account was additionally confirmed by Darin Hoover, the father of Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, and Christy Shamblin, the mother-in-law of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee.
Both soldiers were killed in the Kabul explosion.
“We sat in that office for what seemed like an eternity waiting on the doddering old fool,” Hoover told the Mail.
The disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal after 20 years of war is widely viewed as a low point in Biden’s term.

White House allies later tried to insist the moment never happened.
A rep for the White House similarly insisted Nap-gate was false.
“That claim is untrue. As President Biden said on the 4th anniversary of the tragic attack on Abbey Gate and in the letters he wrote to family members after meeting with them in Dover, ‘these 13 Americans — and the many more that were wounded — were patriots in the highest sense’ and ‘we owe them and their families a sacred debt we will never be able to fully repay, but will never cease working to fulfill,’ a White House spokesman said.
