HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – June 24 is recognized as National Upcycling Day. In the Valley Creative Reuse shop, an old record can become a bowl, or soda can tabs can make a necklace.

Valley Creative Reuse promotes creativity, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability all year round.

Valley Creative Reuse is one of nine creative reuse shops in the Commonwealth. It opened its doors in November 2023 and expanded in 2024. Since opening, it has received over 300 pounds of donations. Everything in the store is 100% donated by the community.

“There are things around us just in our day-to-day that might otherwise just get thrown into the trash, but things that we can creatively reuse and repurpose and add value to something we might have thrown into the trash can or recycled,” Morgan Gross, the founder of Valley Creative Reuse, said.

Gross said the Valley Creative Reuse also provides a space for people to express their creativity and hosts crafting workshops and other events to promote its values and community engagement.
